A thoroughly honest game-show host has placed a car behind one of three doors. There is a goat behind each of the other doors. You have no prior knowledge that allows you to distinguish among the doors. "First you point toward a door," he says. "Then I'll open one of the other doors to reveal a goat. After I've shown you the goat, you make your final choice whether to stick with your initial choice of doors, or to switch to the remaining door. You win whatever is behind the door."

You begin by pointing to door number 1. The host shows you that door number 3 has a goat.

So, the question is, should you stay with door number 1 or switch to door number 2?

For myself, I would stick with my original choice. I am curious, why does a goat spring to mind for this question?

I would choose door number 2, because since he said "Then I'll open one of the other doors to reveal a goat" I think it means that is very probable that door number 1 has a goat behind.........wait, that does not sound right Um, not very good at puzzles when is 12:30AM

yea thats awful reasoning, go to bed!

All that means is that you could have picked the other goat or the car.

Hey, if it were a few centuries ago, a goat would have been a valuble commodity! It could provide you with a cheap grass cutting solution, kept you and you family in milk which could then be made into cheese for those lean winter months, and then finally when it was time, it could have made you are yours a delicious stew!

Goats are great. I want a herd of pygmy ones to live in my wood but her indoors won't let me.

Back in the day, I moved in with a friend of mine who lived out in the middle of nowhere. He was pretty much a white trash redneck, and his wife was even worse, but the rent was next to nothing and I was a very cheap bastard back then. He had a pygmy goat (along with approximately 10,000 filthy chickens). I know understand why goats are viewed as evil. This little thing was the spawn of the devil himself.

First, he sounded like a crying baby/young child. In the middle of the night I'd hear this unholy wailing sound, and look to see a little black goat - standing on his back legs with his front hooves up againt one of my windows - stairing in at me as I slept.

They're horribly nasty too. He'd run around with a raging hard on and try to rape one of the (male) dogs. Didn't matter the dog was twice his size, make do with what you got I suppose. Damn I thought he sounded evil normally - let alone when he was making his little goat mating shriek while he was desperately trying to rape this poor hound dog. If that was enough, he'd constantly piss all over the place (and himself) with his raging little goat hard on so he reaked beyond beleif. He was always covered in dirt, piss, and gods only know what else (I think he rolled around in the chicken coop as well). He'd come running up to me when I got back from work, and I'd usually just kick him as hard as I possibly could to get him to leave. I think the sick little fucker liked it since it only seemed to encourage him.

Goats are filthy creatures. Avoid them at all costs. Everything they said about them in the middle ages is true.

I would switch to door number 2 because there is a chance that you could get the car. There is no way to tell though, you could end up with the other goat. So switching to door number 2 is the best choice, no matter what you get from it.

^you dont really give any good reasons for switching.

I find this funny how this partially turned into a discussion about goats.

The reason I would switch is because there is a higher chance of getting the car, and even if you dont get the car, you just end up with what you had to start. So you might as well just switch to door 2, because you either get the goat or the car, but if you stay with door 1, you only get a goat, no matter what. Isnt that a good reason? I thought it was.

okay its late so im trying my best...he obviously knows what door the goats and car is behind..if you're thinking about it in numbers than you have a 66.6% chance of picking a goat and 33.3% chance of getting a car so say you pick a goat..he knows it, but hes obliged to show you a goat thats why theres 2 so i would choose the one he didnt show me because there's a higher percentage chance of it being there, if i thought of it like that..did that make sense??

actually wouldn't it be a 50% 50% chance because the host already showed you that door number three was a goat so that leaves door 1 and 2 although we're wondering why he would say thoroughly honest gameshow host actually wouldn't it be a 50% 50% chance because the host already showed you that door number three was a goat so that leaves door 1 and 2 although we're wondering why he would say A thoroughly honest game-show host has placed a car behind one of three doors.

well he has to show you a goat no matter what, but at the beginning you have the majority chance to pick a goat..so you pick a goat he shows you a goat the other ones a car
