Gosh, I would think that english names fit the person in the story due to his/her background. Or the story takes place in another place other than Japan. So of course there is going to be other names besides japanese. Most romance and slice of life that takes place in japan has japanese names for its characters. Characters outside of the sphere of Japan all tend to go to english or Latin (greek and etc.) names. Unless it is suppose to be a mix fantasy where the origins of names doesn't matter. . . .because to that storyline a name just have to sound cool and have meaning to the individual characters. So I don't get why this topic is even brought up.

Before a person post first, why not also remember where and when the story takes place before bringing up names and making fun of it or questioning it? It really makes you sound or look like a fool if taken the story or series into account.

I don't like it when they use English names sometimes, it sounds really odd to me. Especially in Zero no Tsukaima. >.>. Just like in dubs, the Japanese names sound weird because of they way it's pronounced.

there are lots of them like light from death note.

Light wasn't an english name. It's actually Raito that stems from the english word "light" but it is an actual japanese name. In the dubbed and subbings they change it to Light because that's how it's pronounced and what it means anyway. but there are a couple english names in Death Note occasionally I believe.

huh, funy topic

how 'bout the classic name changes:
usagi=serina
ami=amy(both real names in both languages)
rei=rey(don't know if both are real in both languages, know its real in japanese)
makoto=lita
minako=mina(guess it makes sense)
chibiusa=rini
setsuna=trista
mamoru=darien(read somewhere they both mean "protect" though I already knew that for the japanese)
michiru=michelle
haruka=amara
hotaru=hotaru(weird not even spelled dif.)
these days they don't really change the names of anime/manga characters for beginners you find out why there are weird names soon enough and except it and its mostly read by *insiders anyway

*refering to people like me and you (i think, don't really know about you) who are experts on the subject (i specilize in shoujo romance manga though only stuff I can read in english still if its moderetly popular I'll definitly know somthing about it and if its not, well betcha I might surprise you )
