Meh, I think it would feel weird to have something that appears like it's capable of it's own thought with me like, 24/7... I mean, how do you hold a relationship with a really beautiful computer that looks like a person living with you at the same time? I couldn't deal with it.

I would love it if that would happen! A computer that follows you around and does what you tell and program it... Wait isn't that just basically a macro on a computer if you take out the follows you around

what about the problem that you might get so used to the company of persocoms (because they are near perfect) that you shun your fellow human beings?

i think if you treat it like a friend you wont lose yourself... but if you fall in love that would be difficult...

A semi-sentient computer... yeah it would be really useful I mean aside from manuel labor they would be a walking talking wealth of knowledge. Of course having semi-sentient computers will probably cause many ethical issues as far as treatment. If they ever reach full sentience Human rights may end up being applied to them. Again these are ethical issues we will need to adress when sentient computers arise. Are they really human? do they have souls? does it really matter if they do? should they be given human rights? these are difficult questions that will need to be covered and delt with along with a whole host of others. And whats more important is that we may be the generation to have to make these decions. Who knows what we will create in the next 40 to 50 years. I personally think they will need such rights. I mean if you get a artificial leg or any other implant you are technically a cyborg on a certain level. The question is does it matter if you are a human first and then get implants (cyborgs) or a non-organic life form that gains the consience and intellect of humans (androids). I'm curious what people think, do you guys think if they gain full sentience (a level of intelect equal to humans ex. individual thoughts, feelings, and memory) do they deserve human rights? Should they be considered nothing but hardware to be used for any need ex. sex, slave labor?
