But Diesel prices are ridiculous now.

yes.... yes the prices are a bit crazy but hey if i just have to fill up about once every 2 and a half weeks or so instead of every damn week i rather do that (then again i am beating the hell out of my car a bit to much >_<)

although it may be more expensive than other cars mentioned, i really like the Jaguar XJ as a DD car. it looks really really good, has good handling, stylish and comfortable interior, and a range of engine sizes to suit lots of driving styles.
other than that i think the mazda6 is also pretty good. looks decent, gets the job done, reliable.

Yeah thats true...But also with Diesels, aha price of like services are crazy too. Did an oil change on this diesel Ford, took like 11 quarts of oil.

I heard that SoCal is going to be the only place to have the FCX, I'm not sure though.

The question is too general. It is hard to tell which everyday car is the best, It is best to classify. The following are some of my point of view base on articles i read and search:

Best car according to fuel efffeciency - GM volt, Toyota prius
Best car according to safety - Volvo
Best car according to quality
Less trouble in maintenance
and breakdowns -Honda, Subaru, Toyota
Best car in price (irony) -Rolls Royce
Best car in advance technology
Electronic -Lexus (Toyota)
Best car in competive price
Lots of standard features - Hyundai

the best everyday car would suit the personality and driving preference of the person...

its not always the econoshitbox that is praised as the BEST car to drive...yeah they save gas...cheap...but it has limited characteristics of what makes driving an experience...

My IS300 is a great DD...has just the right amount of power...excellent handling in cali weather and good for long commutes...
