Are Japanese artists becoming too "Americanized"?...It's a tough question cuz American and Japanese both need to be able to interpret and analyze what are Americanized and Japanese style. We both need to know which sounds and styles are original.

How does one pinpoint exactly which country was the "founder" of a musical genre?

I find that Japanese artists, as well as most people that contribute to the Japanese culture, basically take the American culture and exaggerate it. (visual kei, anyone?)

I'd just like to make a quick note that visual kei doesn't necessarily refer to a specific musical genre, but rather an appearance. I am hopeful that if anyone uses the term "visual kei" that they will understand this. Visual kei is a result of 70s glam rock. I'd like to call it more of a subgenre of glam rock (although musically it isn't necessarily a subgenre of it) just as emo is a subgenre of punk, punk is a subgenre of rock, etc.

No offense, but I think the japanese had it comming. If you dive into japan's oldest history, you can literally watch the culture explode in a new direction after it came into contact with the Chinese. Not that America is any effin' prize, but to a certain extent, we happened to be the neighbor in the other direction who brought their culture to a halt half a century ago. Our cultures have become tangled; this site is living proof.

However, I think you are being impatient. Music is still being born that is greater than Japan + USA. Punk rock was originally intended to be a means of escape from bigger machines. Technology is increasing the sound pallet artists work with. I think it isn't that simple in Japan, but I can bet you that the most american sounding bands are being exported to america. But I think this is just a phase, I have hope.

It is sort of poetic, the birthplace of the sun leading the charge in change and experimentation. If you chew on enough Japanese media, you can notice tastes of latino culture and russian animation, french animation. The japanese are the true kings of the internet and technology, I wouldn't be suprised to them pimping out Uncle Sam's wheelchair in a couple decades.

I'd say the world is Americanized; USA sets the rules and trends and everyone follows in suit. (For the past 100 years and currently) and will most likely stay that way, even though China is a force to be reckoned with. I doubt Chinese would do like the Americans, correct me if i'm wrong but Chinese culture isn't about boasting oneself to be #1.

PS: I'm partially chinese and from my experience.

I went on a rant off topic but whatever, yeah Japanese artists are becoming a bit too Americanized. (I'll post a specific example when I remember)

I dont think it really matters
As long as they still sound good and as long as they aren't being forced to change their style then it's all good.
I listen to all kinds of music and don't really have a specific genre that i like more than the others.
People seem to have a problem with that.
Anyway I can't really tell how it is becoming Americanized........

music is being americanized abit but rest of the stuff is still asianized(ahaha) since we dont eat pizza everyday!(well just from my point of view - my american friends eat pizza at school for lunch everyday - seems lik they never get tired eatin em)

ops back to music, i lik japanese rap better(lik rip slyme) since i understand em, nice melody, etc instead of american gangsta rap...but i lik black eyed peas

and i think almost all the countries r havin same kind of music nowadays - not only japan, but korea, china, europe, etc

Metal gear solid 2 anyone? The ending was so... American. And the fact that it sucked didn't make it any better.

There's no doubts that the world is americanized and music too. It's not only japanese music, it's the same in every country, there's always the american influence. It's because "people love american music so, for business, we produce the same sound", right now i think it's only for business... The artists that are not americanized do exist - not sure that you know them - it's those "underground" artists...

i dont think it matters. manga and anime have to sell in other places too so why not piggy back on the american bulldozer?

what i dont like is american 'mangakas' trying to pass off their inept drawings as 'manga'

that's what the comics inductry is for. sorry if i offend anyone

for example Jrock nd even Heavy Metal they put together both musical aspects of amecian rock nd american Heavy Metal nd japanese music nd get some thing sweet. in Heavy Metal u normally won't here japanese style of Heavy Metal but its awsome that the country i was born in has music i really like. so in away its good to spand out towards something like americanizing
