mmm~ i think our actions are in a way are predetermined, so to speak. Everything you do is a product of what has already happened. The past creates our circumstance, on which we base our decisions. From the day your born, every factor in your life (experiences, influences, etc.) will affect your every action. "Destiny" and "Fate" may just be labels for this kind of occurrence. "Free will" and "choice" is already factored into the many variables that make up who u are, its in our biology too. When some one says he/she will change his or her destiny thats simply another choice made based on the given persons personality. Karma and religion are ways to organize society, Creating a morals and principles on which to live by; which is just another variable that affect peoples lives.

NOthing in this world maps out the way we really want it. I would say that, yes, we are free to make decisions that can affect our lives - but, conversely, people are linked together by society and therefore actions of one can affect actions of others no matter how insignificant the action may be. The concept I think of causality comes to mind because there is the concept of "right and wrong" and the presence of society. For me then, our actions are a consequence of both freewill and determinism; your actions can only be dictated by your freedom to choose what you want with your life, but if you think about it, the choices are pretty much determined by your environment and by present circumstances.

Honestly, on this particular philisophical discussion, I never could get past the basic principle as they both seemed to hold true.

I have the abililty to choose, and what I choose determines what happens in my life and so I have free will.

I am born with a certain genetic code that when placed in the environment I'm born into shapes itself accordingly. Everyone else has the same predisposition, and together we choose as we have been designed to do. Everything is determined.

I could never get past that.

FREE WILL!!! A life that is pre-determined is a show, a story told by others, NOT the life of a human being. However, things can be predicted sometimes, like: he's gonna grow up to be a construction worker or she will become a successful lawyer. However, they are not fated to do so.

If life my life had already been decided, i'd just sit back relax, and not try, cuz it's all going to happen anyway. BUT SCREW THAT, I DECIDE WHO I AM AND WHAT I DO!!! NOT SOME HIGHER BEING!!!

I am indifferent, if it is free will, then i have made some retarded decisions myself, if it is all planned out, then the person doing the planning, WTF with those decisions. End of the day, if I am making the decisions, i'll carry on doing so without really knowing, and if it is determined, the person making the decisions is a bastard! I'll just carry on going with the flow of things

I don't believe in stuff like fate and destiny, etc. I think everyone chooses their actions and has to face the consequence. Not some higher being or whatever decided to do it to make the person suffer or be happy or something.

I hate fate...i hate gods will....we need a little more indifference when it comes to believing some sort of cosmic will that drives your life...theres nothing greater than yourself that cares what you do

I think we have free will within certain extend! Overall I believe in destiny, better say in God and that he guides all my steps! We are free to make choices to our interpretation & understanding, but god has the final word! (In my believe)

Both. Our actions are completely ours to choose, however who we are is completely defined by the neural processes within our brains. So technically, we would always make the same choice given the EXACT same conditions (time included). Other than that, it's not an excuse for doing anything.

how philisophical.....ask this: Can a slight change of resolution change the course of the future? Since i can change my resolution, can i change the future? The answer to both is yes. we have free will. fate is a matter of coincidence and outside variables whereas free will is the resolution to control one's future. both are tied together. Though free will may not always win in the endgame, we have it.

I don't believe in fate really, but then if there is destiny, gods or whoever the hell is inventing our fates, is pure evil. They arrange for people to get killed? And yet for the criminals to get out of prison?
