Why not live without religion?

Well, I was going through a bunch of videos in youtube regarding the problem of differences between religious followers and athiests and it inspired me to ask a general question to EVERYONE.

Please realize that I don't mean any harm, and I really don't care about how everyone lives their lives. (I actually encourage differences between races/religions and anything inbetween.) But my question is this:

Why don't we all live without religion? I've been an atheist for a very long time, and I live a very happy and full life. I have ambitions, I have disciplines, and I even receive very worldly and profound feelings even though I live without religion. I write my book, and I produce my own understanding of the world without having to reference anything. Why do some people live with religion when living without religion yields the same result? (and vise versa if you want)

PS: you're welcome to make fun of my mother, assume I touch my sister, and realize that all koreans eat dogs. Just don't "yell" at anyone else for their beliefs.

Because people need some all powerful figure to explain conundrums with. If they don't they feel insecure.

I'm somewhere between Athiest and Agnostic, haven't quite decided yet. I can live without religion. My family is Buddhist but we really aren't that religious at all, in fact, I've learned more from the internet about Buddhism then I have from my parents. >_> I never actually knew what believing in Buddha meant, basically I was blindly believing. Eventually I realized how stupid I was being and converted. Because I didn't actually know what I was believing in, I think that I spent my life without religion. And only last year about I think I converted to Atheist / Agnostic (still haven't decided) and I've been doing just fine.

I'm not religious and I don't really have a problem with religions. What gets to me are those religious extremists full of bigotry.
Though I do think the world would be better off without religion.
Many people can't find enough strength within themselves and need a higher power.
So yea, not going to be disappearing any time soon.

Religion, comes from the latin word "religãre" which directly transelates "to tie fast" in other words bind.
I dont beleive in things like religion, this world is here for us as long as we are concious of it, when we dream we are in a different work, when we are awake we are in a different world, who's to say theres something such as a god or something such as one reality, what is real? what we can see, feel and touch?
The only way i would beleive in any kind of religion was if god himself came to me, even then id be pretty skeptical.
I'm not trying to disrespect other beleif's this is just mine and mine is that no religion is true its all something a person created to make the world seem more like it has a meaning to it, to make like seem like it has an aim, to guide the ones who think they need guiding. Because in the end, you are the only one who can tell you to beleive in something from the bottom of your heart :]

Religion is essential to keep your right and wrong intact. It is also needed by those desperate in life due to misfortune. But it depends on you anyway if you want to live a life based on religion or on some philosophy. As long as you live a good life, it doesn't matter what you chose.

"Religion is essential to keep your right and wrong intact."

Really now? I'd have to disagree with that. Many people keep their right and wrong "intact" just fine without religion.

Essential? Not in the least.

Hmm... I guess without religion, the world will have no laws or morals. I mean, it is in religion where you'll find most things like "forgive and you shall be forgiven" and "do unto others what you want others to do to you". Basically, you can trace most laws found in any country's constitution to a religion. Without religion, I guess the world wouldn't be as it is right now. Besides, without a God to fear, what's stopping you to do anything you wish like hurting someone or stealing things?

(correct me if I'm wrong) -_-

To be honest, it really depends on what you define religion as. Is it something where you believe that there's a higher order of things other than our mundane politics( as in god), or is it something where I believe not everything is as it seems?

If those two questions fit the criteria for your question, then the answer is yeah!

I live without religion. Personally, there are asthetics that keep me at peace and "sane", and I never had the need for religion.
