I'm currently taking kendo right now, and to be honest I love every minute of it, not only do i get to learn a more common sense style of kenjutsu I also get a semi decent work out =D, plus it compliments my other martial arts pretty well*nod nod*

I do it, I think its awesome. If you want to learn how to wield a real samurai sword...and fight like the ancient samurai, then do it! You may train with sticks, but replace that stick with a sword and your one deadly person!

I practice amateur kendo...as in swing a sword over and over again n ot knowing what I'm doing. Anyway just bought some shinai, so I've built a pretty strong grip by addind more weight on my wrists.

Akido is a better choice, you can't defend yourself all the time carrying a bamboo sword which weights 1kg against groups of punks that never learns.

I think the bigger question here is...why the hell are people trying to fight with a bamboo stick in the first place!?

because when using a samurai sword its hard to make contact without the other person dying...
that tends to be frowned upon

in kendo wooden practice swords are used as well as the big bamboo sticks though.

Used to do it, then gave it up because of school work. Still pretty good at it despite being a bit rusty, though I can't seem to swing as fast as I used to.
