I like how everyone seems to be intelligent. Not ignorant nor plain dumb. And that things are resolved in an intelligent way.

after watching this, at least i now have a bit of knowledge about korea's history. =) long live yisan!!

i am impressed at how they made this drama. i love each and every episodes. this drama made me love yisan more because of his unwavering love for his nation and lady sung. also, this drama made me hate and cursed the dowager queen (even in my sleep! lol). i should have told the director to execute the dowager queen on the first few episodes. hahaha!!

i love this drama. He did love his wife but he love Seong Yeon more because it was "true love." In the drama he said something to Seong Yeon that he asked her to see him as a "man" not as a "king." The ending was a tearjerker.

Can someone enlighten me about the mother of the son that succeeds him? The prince that's shown in the end. I only found her name on Wikipedia, nothing more.

I know I am late to the party, but I have enjoyed in order Jewel in the Palace, Dong Yi, and then Yi San. It was accidentally in succession, and I find I would love a list of all crunchyroll historical dramas in order according to time period. I'm so smitten that now I am looking forward to studying more of Korean history IRL.

I'm pretty new to the Asian Drama genre. My first was Jewel in the Palace, & I was hooked! Yi San was my second K-Drama, & I was happy to see a few familiar faces as part of the cast. There's even a short, humorous homage to Jewel...Palace in one of the later episodes.

Although I enjoyed Yi San very much, I was a little disappointed in how Song Yeon, as a grown woman, was portrayed. I know very little about her historically. I also don't know how much information is available in regards to her personality. However, the difference between Song Yeon as a little girl vs. her as an adult was disappointing enough that it popped into my mind multiple times throughout the series. She was a sparky, street-wise, stubborn, little girl. As an adult, however, she seemed flat; very unlike her younger self.

I believe the intention was to go for "quiet strength," but they sacrificed that "spark" which was so evident in her as a youth. Each time I caught a glimpse of that earlier fire, I thought, "OK. Now we're finally going to see the kind of woman it took to achieve what she did in those days..." but she fizzled out every time.

Ah well, I guess it sounds a bit nit-picky...I still enjoyed the series and other actors very, very much.
