Blu-ray?
Posted 6/30/08
Blu ray is a good broken thing in my eyes.

Problem with blu ray, is that the laser is so small. The laser is so small to allow it to read the data (more data on the same disc size means the readable area of the data is smaller). HOWEVER, since the laser is so small, it takes a very long time for the laser to travel across, and blu ray suffers from HORRIBLY slow transfer speeds. PS3 games need to be INSTALLED, because for some games, the blu ray player cant read the disc fast enough to keep up with the game. Some people even say that a blu ray reads 12 times slower than a DVD. So for any file below 12 GB, there is literally no point in getting a blu ray. Quoting the infamous Yahtzee - Why pay extra for a few extra pixels on screen. The difference in blu ray hi def and DVD hi def is negligible, if your rich enough to get a TV that can play blu ray at its full quality, then why do you worry about blu rays price, and if you dont have a TV that can harness blu rays full quality, the only real advantage you get is you see an extra pimple or two on a guys face, or an extra rock on the road. Why pay so much more for that extra rock.

blu-ray is gonna be expensive because it is a waste of space. a blu-ray disc has 64 GB of memory. its kinda of redundent.

very good analysis indeed! most compression techniques that are available today, such as DivX for example, have gained such a high performance frame drops are not necessary anymore to get a high definition movie on a regular 4.7 GB DVD... with some additional compression, it's even possible to fit a normal length theater movie on an old school CD (700 MB) in repectable quality.

with these compression ratio's you can easily collect your entire movie collection on one single 64 GB disc! I don't care about high quality tv anyway, just watch everything directly on my 22" TFT computer screen

yes it will work. Blu Ray will be dominating the market pretty soon as we transition from SD to HD rendering DVD behind. While I believe that HD Direct Download will eventually be the leading market, as of now, the US as well as many countries simply does not have the bandwidth capability to do so at the moment.

Instead of buying a Blu-ray dvd why don't you guys just help end hunger?... I know this is out of topic but just a few megapixel clearer... but with that money you use to buy blu-ray, why don't you donate even 1/8 of it? 1/20?...
O just try to flame me ^_^

Why not buy a (PRODUCT) RED Blu-ray player and enter the HD era and end the hunger era at the same time? Oh wait, (PRODUCT) RED is helping to end AIDS, not hunger, but it's still a good cause!

as far as for movies-this format will be around for a long time, the memory is just gigantic.
Although it wont last that long as a prime choice for games, as you can see MGS4 nearly took all the space it had, so games in the future will be bigger thus requiring larger memory capabilities.

I dont give too much of a shit about it. I watching movies is one of my favorite hobbies, and the other one is downloading. So I basically go home and torrent movies.
