"Let's Say I Break Into Your House"
A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, Once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America ....if you agree, pass it on(in English). Share it if you see the value of it as a good simile. If not blow it off along with your future Social Security funds.

i got this as an email and i thought it was interesting.... any opinions on it?

ok...lets see...first of all i see lots of flaws in the comparisons:

youre comparing a country to your house. Whereas the house is owned by a individual (and my be lived by a few) - overall..the house legally is binded to one person only. - a house is private property...A COUNTRY IS NOT!!. If youre going to make such a comparison, then how bout tourists? Does that mean they enter your 'house' take photos of your belongings and family members, walk around and and pay you some money to sleep in your place, while them may no occasional break something.

Now on to housework - you cant compare economic development to housework. How stupid can you be? housework/chores are ordinary everyday things like cleaning dishes etc. am i right? they make no progress in terms of increasing the value of you house if you know what i mean. Economic development on a broader scale on the other hand increase a economies value, social development and living standards. I dont see housework as a good comparison. Maybe if it were: breaking in to your house, working for you in some of your chores and helping you earn money, and renovating/improving your house sounds more like it...

'honest'...look if the comparison adds honest (since it was repeated so many times in the paragraphs)...id cross that right off. If theyre illegal immigrants, they dont have working visas, but are working (thats already non honest) - which means they avoid taxes... doesnt sound like honest.

now onto the language part. What makes u think u ahve to commute to them? if you dont want to employ them why do u need to commute with them. Theyll have to adapt...otherwise where they going to eat? Really the language this is what i find quite disturbing though. In australia we have a huge cultural diversity, we have people coming in via immigration...but u dont see us complaining about language... WHY!? well the people learn the language.

this is depressing that is so true on so many different levels but will it ever change i wonder? it's something we as americans living in California have to face with on a more personal and increasing manner...i can't imagine living here forever i know ever since i was little i wanted to leave but not for the same reasons i have now , now i really don't like where this state as a part of the country is headed....

Conservative spam... i used to get forwarded stuff like this all the time back when I was in the military. I still get it every now and then.

Illegal immigration is a problem and definitely it could be handled better. That email oversimplifies it though (the house analogy, while on the surface sounds good, falls apart on inspection).

Yeah considering 'Breaking In' and 'Hiring without tax paperwork' are so similar.

I think too many people forget that we're all just that. People. Switch the roles and most people would be humming a different tune IMO.

Also, the letter fails to mention that your house came into existence via someone else letting you into their house, you thanking them by subjugating, humilliating, and practically annihilating them, then building your own house on top of the ashes of theirs, then locking the door after filling it with a comfortable amount of white people.

Accept your responsibility as a world citizen. Understand that new growth is the only thing that can keep America from consuming itself. Anybody remember good old domestic terrorism? School shootings? Thats what happens when you shut all the doors and stick your head up your ass. Don't be afraid of competition, meet the challenge or fail. America could really use having its fat trimmed a bit, to remember what struggle is really like. Don't deny immigrants their humanity because they are different. Don't confuse racism with nationalism. You drool over exotic women or foreign guys, but that is mostly because you don't realize how small the world really is. Take a moment to get over yourself and see it the other way around.

It really isn't your house. It's the house you inherited from your father, that you steward for your children. Put any idiot on an island and he can claim to be the brightest. Let another man in and the story changes all together. I'm not saying the current system of government is perfectly ready for this, but I don't think it is right to tell someone who has lived here for decades that they aren't American and make them sub-citizens. The laws go far beyond maintaining National Security, and lean more towards maintaining racial and cultural superiority.
