But this is usually abused, especially the paranoid Americans.

OK, imma say this ONCE, America attacked ONE country unfairly, and i don't even think that anyone is at privilege to call that either way. Every other war they have ever been in they were either attacked, or provoked some other way into war. How have we ever abused our power? Do you have proof? Other than the time that we bombed Japan, your claim seems to have no proof.

Secondly, where do you get off calling Americans paranoid, if anything I'd say that nothing could be farther from the truth (and yes, i have several historical references to back this statement up). Are you even from America, or do you just have some beef because they are more powerful than your country?

Come to think of it, this seems to be one of the most misinformed sentences i've ever seen in my life

I wouldn't say that America is abusing their military power, some people often focus on the part that America has been very successful. When we are under attack, it is necessary to defend ourselves. The Vietnam War was probably a mistake, but everyone makes mistakes. If you would like I can give a more in-depth explanation of the Vietnam War, but I'm not going to do that in a single post.

no, america is too aggressive sticking its nose where it doesn't belong. if you're gonna start to 'liberate' some country let it be somewhere like sudan that has people actually wanting it. not somewhere no one wants you. the military is necessary for defending itself and stopping horrible war crimes, not for the benefit of the country.

it's necessary for all of us to feel a sense of security..

military.. hmm.. it's either they defend or they attack. either way.. they would still cause destruction.. but then.. they didn't have the choice. it's the upper ups who control them and made them do what they have done..

good quote jay...

as former military here is my opinion:

in an ideal world there is no need for a military. sadly things are not, so there is a genuine need for a military. now, unlike typical red state opinion, the presence of a military does not justify it's indiscriminate use. just because a military marches to war with it's nation's flag waving behind it doesn't magically justify any action it takes.

as long as humans are imperfect there is a need for a military to guard it's nation against possible threats.

war is without a doubt the most terrible of actions man can take. There is never a reason to start a war, however there is a reason to go to war to defend one's self.

I beleive it was the tao te ching that said something along the lines of "take up weapons with mourning" which i agree with. there is no triumph in victory, only sorrow that such actions were necessary.

it's a terrible world we live in. sometimes terrible actions are necessary. but no matter how terrible or necessary such actions are, they should never be glorified, only the sacrifice required to make them should be.

Its Evil for the person it attacks

Its Good for the person it defends

|n both cases there are bound to be people who don't deserve it.

If there was no military whatsoever, there would be no war at all as there would be no one to fight!

Well, it really doesnt matter because there are also American bases in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and some other places in Middle East but they make destruction, not peace.

The army is needed we need them not only for protection of us and others but the army also helps out with natural desasters. I feel that the army is only rembered for the wars they fight not the aid they provide. the army does good as well as bad and i feel that it is nessary to have an army

ps. + what would we do if aliens invade earth

Preventing other countries from taking them over. If America didn't have a military, than another country would take us over... Simple as that. You have no military, you are prey.
