There is a myth that witches did it because their power resided in their pinky fingers. and to break the oath would render them powerless.

i think the pinky promise is kind of cute , but what happens if u dont keep the promise?

there's a kids' rhyme that goes like this

指切りげんまん
うそ付いたら
針千本飲ます
指切った

Roughly translated, it means

Cut your finger and swear
Should you lie
Swallow a thousand needles
Cut your finger

Charming, innit?

i kinda think of it being "popular" or originating in China or Japan, but if its japan, i bet they took it from china. No offense, but japan's really good at taking and borrowing stuff/ideas from other countries. Most of their "old" traditions and culture still root to ancient china. Correct me if you think Im wrong, Im not an expert either ^^'' If you are Chinese, you'd see the similarities between ur culture in comparison to the Japanese, a LOT of the different traditions/ideas are similar. I wonder if the Zodiac Story (like how Rat rode on the Bull and won first place) is fairly known in Japan, I'd say they took that story from China, because that story was also fairly known in China. Alright I'll stop talking, i feel like an idiot T_T ore wa baka desu

Yeah, heard of that but I never knew that that was the main reason why we have the "pinky promise" today =3
