Pretty much the same as you, but there is a section in HMV with anime dvds, but most of them are still dubbed ><

Dub ruins most anime. There are few from what I've heard such as Avatar etc. So dub ruins Anime DvD for me. However if there was a subbed DvD then that would be awsome \o/

well we dont have stores here that sell original anime DVD, well i only have pirated ones(people who sell them download them from the internet and sell them, people who buy these are totally addicts of anime since many people are also addict here in our country..) and since i really like to watch that anime, i have no choice but to buy them since some animes are licsenced here on crunchyroll...>_> and also since its already subbed...and i can keep them and watch them again anytime i want...=P

well for the sake of this poll i'll just that its expensive but the main reason i dont like DVDs is because i just like fansubs better. if you watch subs on an anime DVD you dont get all the little translation notes and explanations if theres a reference to history, science, myth or whatever else people might not understand. Oh little name suffixes bother me too. like instead of Takashi-sensei they put like Teacher Takashi or Professor which would be wrong or just sounds weird.

but yes they are expensive but mainly because they paid people to dub it, which sucks by the way, and they add some other little features sometimes that i could care less about lol. Oh the whole region disc problem can be easily solved but if the region code is different then that means it has to be shipped from some other country which will mostly likely double or maybe even triple prices since its an import+shipping fees haha. so fansubs for life!

wow that was long >.<

There are very few places that sell anime near me. There's one HMV but it's lacking pretty badly.
And I agree with the wrong region thing. (It's the same with manga. When they convert the currencies at times, it gets annoying because I don't use dollars. And neither do I know the estimated exchange rate or whatever you want to call it.)
I've only got one anime DVD in my collection, dubbed Fullmetal Alchemist DVD 2 or something to that effect. Though I can never watch it dubbed, I usually change the audio to Japanese and put English subtitles on. My parents think I'm a weirdo.
But there's also another thing that kinda annoys me, is the font colour they use for the subs, at least on the FMA DVD I have, It burns my eyes. Because it's like this . Bright yellow.
Plus the lack of translation notes, if I didn't have those I more than likely wouldn't understand the whole thing...

DVDs come with subtitle tracks, unless you seriously want to complain about the concept of dubs existing to such an extent.

Lack of availability and incorrect region such and such shouldn't be a problem if you just buy the stuff off of amazon or Ebay or what-have-you.

The only problem for me buying DVDs is the cost. Also, the lack of decent series being licensed sometimes comes into play.

I'm pretty sure dubbed DVDs have a subs feature on them. I know I have a few.

I don't buy because I don't have money.
Planning on getting a job soon though, so maybe some day I'll have a neat little collection.

there was an article in the neo mag telling about anime dvd's in the u.k. i believe to an extent that they are right. dvds in this country are expensive its about £22 for one dvd example bleach. only 12 episodes. if i bought it from say amazon region 1 it would cost less and i would get the whole season 1, instead of just season 1 part 1. and sometimes they come in a nice case or you get a toy or keyring.

i think that sometimes fansubs are better, i watched gravitation when it was fansubded and it was great, then i bought it went it came out it was by the company sony and the subtitles sometimes did not make sense. i think that the fansubbers put more effort into them than some of the big companies.

I'll be honest, I don't have a job yet. Therefore, I'm dependent on allowances and those are usually not too big. I'm gonna spend what little I have on something I could download or watch online? Fat chance
