Alright, settle down, settle down... Have you ever wondered if you could put yourself through slavery just so that you could possibly find yourself your true love? I mean full on slavery. Being whipped, having to do all the laundry, cleaning, not being fed, or having the misunderstanding master that will pull on your leash on a whimsical note and whip you senseless. Yeah that's almost unimaginable. But to have witnessed the way Yamaguchi Noboru (the author of the light novels) put it, it almost felt like it might be worth going through.

Now, I'm not a sadist, but after having watched the relationship between our two main protagonists, love can possibly spur out of the most obscure relationships. Their relationship kept on deepening as the story progressed in the first season, and what I liked about the first season was how fast paced it was. It didn't slow down, it kept you glued onto the plot, and the antics were comical, whimsical, and yet with everything they did, that wasn't what seemed to have deepen their love; they deepened their relationship with one another in another direction, and unintentional ended up in love. What I'm trying to say is, with the experiences they went through together, and hardships, the "whippings", and what ever loony events that took place, their relationship dug deeper and deeper, until it was a canyon begging to be filled. It was on their own accord that they fell in love, and it didn't feel one bit like an unnatural relationship. You felt happy for them. Thus with that, it really is a happy tale of romance, and comedy.

Though with that being said, there were a few pit-falls. It seemed as though they, as to who to pin this onto I don't know, failed to pick up on a few loose ends. In the beginning, I felt as though the viewers were being left out to hang in the sun, since who on earth would settle for sleeping on a hay-stack, and being whipped apart from being a sadist? It took a while to get the ball rolling for the most part, but once it started to snow ball, it really got interesting. Though in between all of it, they (once again to whom to blame this on, I don't know. Author, or studio) seemed to have made our male protagonist, Hiraga Saito seem like some madly obsessed teen who is into nothing but the size of the large, or small, of the chest. This wasn't the case in the first season, as it was our female protagonist, Louis who framed Saito into being the "ero-inu" (perverted dog). It was in the second season where it seemed as if Saito picked up the perverted trait, and actual put it into his own character. And that felt completely unnatural. Though I have to admit, it did add a layer of humor, and a little bit of a "different" depth into the story.

Save from those keen points, I have to say, the ending wasn't satisfying at the end of season two, Futatsuki no Kishi. I kept thinking, "damn he's gone?" and after that I feel as if they were going to bring him back. But then I thought, "is that really a good thing?" Then I find out, yes. But then the building of the atmosphere in the last few minutes was great, and the way they twisted it, but just when you think they could have made a change from the norm once and for all, the disappointment of how their relationship went from a highly romantic atmosphere, and then having it dropped to nothing but rock bottom. Like dropping a rock down the well, and not hearing it drop rock bottom for a very long time, that's what they should have done. You heard the rock thud instantaneously as it hit its climax. It just ends. Where as they could have at least done some justice from a literary sense and ended it on a more romantic, yet comical note. That would have lifted the mood, and they could have derived onto the same very last ending if they wished so. They failed to capitalize on something they did right. Though I get what they were trying to do, if only they could have just held it through until the very end!

*sigh* Well, away from the story, and onto the real world aspects of this anime. Kugimiya Rie our seiyuu who does Nagi in "Hayate no Gotoku", as well as Yurika in Chocotto Sister, is our voice for Louis. And when you've watched those animes, and listened to her voice for those character traits (the rich and snobby little whiny girl), you can tell they, J.C. Staff Studio did a good job at casting her for Louis. She really fits the theme of the character, only from a reminiscing stand point. As the voice doesn't quite fit the stature of Louis, sometimes. Though aside from that, all the other seiyuus where as good as you would expect from any other anime. The voices matched their characters well. No real complaints. Oh since we're on this subject... What I found particularly hilarious was our seiyuu's attempts at trying to pronounce French. "Tre Bein" "Madmossile" (how the hell do you spell it!?) "Francoise"... It's almost enjoyable at how they butchered them up. But nonetheless, they gave a shot at it, and it was more passable than say, Strawberry Panic... That had some awkward butchering of the French language as well!!!

Love, romance, "ero-baka-inu", fantastical, comical, ecchi, a little flawed, yet one very enjoyable experience. To put it short, if you want a quick paced serialized light novel, then look no further. It was a thrill to have watched this series, though it might leave you wanting more.

(This was meant to encompass both season 1 and 2. And now that Season 3 is announced for this summer, it shouldn't be long till you will be hearing from us!!)

Oh did I mention there are subliminal themes of ecchi in this anime as well? ;)
Enjoy!

yes Shana=Loiuse and Saito=Yuji has the same seiyuu

Herietta has the same VA for Yoshida...

Kirche's & Tabitha VAs has different VA than Margery & Wilhelmina...

as for Der-kou he has the same VA as Scarron(the gay whom who always call himself as "ma madamoiselle"), Marco(Margery's book) has a different VA

Here's my opinion:

Due the popularity of Shakugan no Shana this Zero no Tsukaima was made also with the same VA. This series got good response basicly from the VA kugimiya Rie, that's it that's the only selling point since her popularity raise from Shakugan no Shana which give good impression and impact as a tsundere chara which is very popular at that time. But the most important role VA is indeed Ayako Kawasumi since she's the true selling point in the anime world.

The story wasn't so good to me although the curiousity factor about how is Louise-Saito relationship gonna be, the mysteries of Gandalfr, and what happen to Saito would he return to his world ro not.

The long-waited 2nd season is dissappointing but since it mostly accomplish to the story/plot like the backgorund of the chara, so it's still good to follow. So I wish the 3rd season would be more action, adventure, and more story to accomplish.

The last but not least this anime still has the feels of Shana from Shakugan no Shana. IMO.
