I do believe that most of the kids in America doesnt know a simple common knowledge. What outraged me the most was when someone told me that Asia was somewhere in Europe. Luckily, I spent most of my education in another country. Also, I have something to affirm, we should also point out that it depends on the school, even if it is private, it would not be better if the same thing as the public school is taught.
This is really an intriguing matter for, most of the time, I say something which is just common sense but my friends tend to just look at me and say "What is that?"
It really annoys me, and especially *no offense* Americans think of Asians very lowly, just because we speak in a different language. I am very fluent with English--- as a Filipino--- for Philippines have high English literacy. And because I speak fluently, people would ask, why and how do I speak/use/write my English very properly with an immense length of vocabulary. Isn't that question very rude? I mean, if someone asks you, "Why do you know English?". That is not a very ideal question.
Back to the video:
The video is also biased, for its notion is based on how bad the common knowledge of American people are. It is kinda sad that they were exploited quite rudely in a grandeur manner, which is also funny. I think, schools needs to step up!

Some totally frivolous answers:
RED are my comments
~ Star wars is based on a true story, true or false? Answer: Tue (Sure, I saw master Yoda personally and he made me his Jedi Student)
~ How many kidney's does a person have? Answer: 1 (When I was in 1st grade, I knew that in a human's anatomy, you have 2 kidneys. Who doesnt know that?)
~What is Hiroshima and Nagasaki famous for? Answer: Judo Wreslting (Omg! You bastards bombed the freakin cities, and you only know its famous for Judo! And by Judo Wrestling, you mean Sumo Wrestling?!)
~How many Eiffel Towers are there in Paris? Answer: 10 (Yup, I built one of them!)
~What is a mosque? Answer: An animal (People are very biased and prejudiced about muslims, yet they dont even know what a mosque is! its a god damn muslim church/temple!)
~Name the country that begins with "U"? Answer: I dont know, New Zealand. (They dont even know their own country, Go Figure!)
~What is the currency of England? Answer: The Queen's money (sensible but still stupid!)
~Who is Tony Blair? Answer: Actor, etc... (Yes, and I had tea with him and the Queen of England.)
~How many sides does a triangle have? Answer: Four (What a coincidence, my stupid classmates corrected me for saying that there is a 7 sided polygon which is heptagon. I was so mad, because they were saying I was wrong and there were no such thing as a 7 sided polygon, and I thought. This is so stupid!)
~Who won the Vietnam War? Answer: The U.S. (Sure, they always win. Damn people, what do they teach you? How Americans Wiped out the Indians to extinction?)

= I mean, yes, they might have picked really stupid people, but that was too much. I almost had a(n) heart attack because of laughing. I am quite aware that I am passing the racial line, I am sorry, I do not mean no offense. It is hard to state facts, for indeed, it is harsh.

this just too over board, your examples does not represent a whole population that's very bias...... beside, Like it is said in history america is a "melting pot" of many different cultures.. I bet the video itself was bias, because they hardly show you the people who answered the questions correctly.... they only show you what they want you to see

I did say that I was overboard and I did say the video was biased. I only portrayed my opinions and comments or maybe even "compliments" on their answers. And Indeed everybody knows that it was biased? But because I have experienced this calamity, what do you think should I say? "Sure they're wrong?" Trust me, All of what I said, is true.

I really don't even feel like responding to such a stupid post...
All I can say is wow...you actually believe what you see on tv...

I love how stupid people can be...
Saying Americans are stupid because of some Australian comedy show.

Are all foreigners, dare I say, that stupid? To be influenced by the media?

Ummm, I did not say you were stupid, and first, I did NOT believe the thing. Didnt I say "biased". So you are expecting me to believe a video, that I, myself, proclaimed biased? And first of all, I was just commenting on the answers, and saying experiences that has happened to me. Did I specifically say "all" Americans are a bunch of "looloo" idiots? No! I know a lot of really smart kids who excel at almost anything. Please do not get me wrong. "At least if you were smart enough, you would understand my concept."

So you guys would understand, let us re-calibrate.
What I have said, as my main topic. "I do belive that "most" (not all) american kids doesnt know a simple common knowledge.
~First, I never brought up the word "stupid", because I never did refer you as a stupid person. The thing that led me to say this is, I am always with American Kids, and as people are "talking" about in this thread.
~I never said that American's are all stupid! If Asian, and other races had surpassed in many different areas, Americans have surpassed even greater than that. America has probably the best medical facilities.
~So now, where was my mishap? Have I conveyed a wrong message unto you? Or maybe have you perceived it wrongly? I do not wish to indulge myself on silly matters, so please, read each word carefully
before saying a stupid response that my post was stupid!

Wow, nice attempt to make yourself look cool.

Reread your post.

"I do believe that most of the kids in America doesnt know a simple common knowledge."
"This is really an intriguing matter for, most of the time, I say something which is just common sense but my friends tend to just look at me and say "What is that?" "
"Trust me, All of what I said, is true."

So tell me, are Americans stupid, or are they not stupid. You changed your answer quite a few times.

Wrong. See my previous post on valid statistical correlation and why literacy (which is what this survey is about) doesn't mean "good schools."

im *reading* your ...essay..

i see..

and bdw im sure American schools are not #1 in the world.. because i could not believe that USA have pretty low education.. for example.. when i transfered to American school from Japanese school when i was in 5th grade.. i already knew most of the math equations because i was already studying basic Algebra at that time in Japanese school.. + some American kids have BIG problem reading their own native language(english).. which i never saw kids like that in Japan or Korea...

i transffered me to a public school here i use to go to a private school back at the Philippines and they placed me in an AP math which is Probability and Statistics and English Honors and it aint hard.. i was so surprised when i got there.. and i don't even study.. i sleep at the class room and don't listen at all i had a GPA of 3.5...

But not all AMERICANS are stupid.. it doesn't mean few (or should i say a lot) of them can't answer the questions necessarily mean that ALL AMERICANS are stupid... that's my point of view.. :]

Yes, I'm quite sure that schools in the US probably aren't "#1" but honestly I don't care. I'd rather have first-rate students and second-rate schools than first-rate schools and second-rate students. I tend to think we have decent schools (if we compare to every school in the world we're at least better than average probably) but unmotivated students.

As for people having trouble reading "their own" language, I have a hard time believing that nobody in Japan or Korea ever has reading problems. I can believe they might be less common. Why? In Korea the written language is for the most part purely phonetic and perfectly logical. It's probably the most logical and simple writing system ever. There's no confusion over how to pronounce hangul, and no confusion over how to pronounce at least the kana in Japanese, even if kana are less logical than hangul. Even foreigners can learn these pretty fast, some even in a week or less.

English is not like this, as you know. I tend to think of English as particularly bad. In Spanish for example I can pretty much always tell how to pronounce something from the spelling, but in English you often have to "just know" the word because letters have many different ways of being pronounced. I mean we have words from Latin, Greek, French, German, etc, which all have their own ways of using roman letters. It would be like having to learn 20 different romaji systems for Japanese, and knowing which one to use just based on the word.

Kanji/hanja/hanzi on the other hand... well, I know fully grown and reasonably well educated Chinese people who can't read all hanzi. I walked into a museum with some people and 23-year-old college graduates couldn't read most of the labels on the exhibits and had no idea as to pronunciation or meaning. Why? Because the hanzi were obscure and that's just how hanzi are. In Chinese at least you may be able to guess meaning and some clue on pronunciation for pictophonetic characters you don't know, like 媽 for example, but for 好 or 來? You have no clue if you don't "just know" the character. Sometimes I joke that even Chinese people can't read Chinese because it's so hard.

In the US we also have lots of ethnic, social, and geographic diversity, and some groups will tend to speak nonstandard English. Thus before kids get into school they may learn nonstandard English from their family. Schools then teach them standard English but they're at a disadvantage having already learned English with certain incorrect grammar and pronunciation. The fact that they go back home and go back to speaking nonstandard English doesn't help. Really any country probably has some of this issue since, in rural areas people may often tend to have poor grammar and stuff and "talk country" or whatever.

Yeah, most public schools in america are dumb..but there are also private schools that are even more uneducated..i speak from experience. Anyways, most people are dumb because they choose to be, and they say they'll become some big star, or get very little education after high school...and this is a result
