Indeed not many. Japan is quite xenophobic after all. I'm currently reading a manga whose name escapes me. anyways, high school students are kicking the crap out of the Us Military. Go figure.

There were a few black fellows in Full Metal Panic. Can't remember their names, but one of them tried to give Sousuke a lolipop.

all the black ppl in the Boondock if its consider anime

Bondook simply has the looks of an anime. Bondoock is a series but anime is more of an epic story divided in parts (kinda like a soup). The characters doesn't even behave anime-like.

how do u classify anime?

There is a real shortage of black anime characters, even less lead characters.
The only leads I can think of are, Bob(tenjou tenge) and Dutch(Black Lagoon).
Also I'm pretty sure the rock dude from Ninja Scroll the movie was black, and Balrog/Bison from Street Fighter 2 the animated movie.

I am also a black person, so the one thing I realize is that there are not a lot of black people in american animation either except for a few shows.

The only real representation are american comic books, most black characters kick ass.
Heroes for Hire and the Secret Avengers are led by black people.

I'm japanese. Yes, there is limited black in anime charactor.
Most reason ,
1. Black who live in Japan is limited. population under 1%???
( It isn't only japan. China, Korea , etc almost East Asian )
2. Recently Japan animation was seen from world wide. But
almost income is earn from Japan. still inside product.
3. Many anime creator doesn't know black person designing well
in Japan.
I think Its problem. But don't misunderstand Japanese is racist.
Sorry My english is very poor.

I'm not trying to be racist at all here so if I do say something wrong don't flame me plaese. I think there arn't many black characters in anime because most animes are from japan and as far as I know or from what I've seen on TV there arn't many black Japanese ppl. But I'm not sure so plaese don't flame me.

I love it whenever authors include characters from other races into the story line. I know I love Yoruichi-sama and have a lil' crush on Halibel [both from Bleach]. There are several other 'black' characters in Bleach, also. I think Tite Kubo is one of the best authors for having so many 'black' characters in his stories. =3

Sorry, But I really can't imagine Japan ever will get in to massively designing "Black" anime character. Their focus is not all depending on our opinion.

Not to be racist or anything but I don't feel comfortable with that skin color.

That's the most racist thing I heard so far.
Every race, color, or creed descended from Africa.
And juct because you think it doesn't mean you have to say it.

i think the whole reason why there's not many black anime characters is because animes are made to appeal to people in japan where the show airs. its just like how americans won't make an asian gangster movie. it won't appeal to the american audience.
