I prefer American/European bands...since I'm into alternative/rock music which doesn't seem big in Asia. All I find in Asian bands are the 'manufactured' boybands, which usually is about looks over talent. I'm not saying that they are not talented but companies seem to be all about marketing and not talent.

Of course, Asians are as talented(see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWG6aN73rAo&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUkksIV8dC8&feature=related. You may have heard that the lead singer of the LEGENDARY American rock and roll band, Journey, is Asian. As in Asian from Asia, literally plucked from Asia to join the band, not Asian American or so. He was 'discovered' by their guitarist on...youtube. So far, aside from Hardcore Perry fans and racists, he's getting rave reviews for his singing.

So, advice to the vain Asian companies out there: produce REAL talents if you want to get a big American break. Bring in real talents, something to be proud of. Not the Wondergirls crap that are like deluded version of Spice girls.

Funny to think that the Asians now who are quite making waves in the US like Arnel and Charice didn't really mean to breakthrough the US. They were 'discovered'. Ellen and Oprah invited Charice and David Foster has been working with her while Journey hired Arnel to be their lead singer after a fan-cum-friend uploaded him singing song of Survivor to Led Zeppelin to Journey to Bon Jovi to bryan Adams...let's just say from Artists A-Z.

I guess it's a matter of preference. If you like the boyband beautiful boys or girl band sexy girls, you might prefer Asian bands since they're ubiquitous and long-dead in the American/Euro music scene, if you're rock-oriented, likely, you'd go for American/Euo

I have to add the fact that American music is more diverse... you can get Jazz, Soul, Country, Instrumental, Rock, Pop, heavy Metal, Bubblegum, Hiphop, Indie, R&B, Latin, Tribute bands. There are many genres popular in the US mainstream. In Asia, it's more 'pop' and bubblegum-oriented. it's sad that many companies are just selling for the 'idol' image than developing talents.

i guess, that's how the music industry now worldwide is nowadays.

I admire Harlem Yu though. he makes Pop but not the bubblegum type aimed at teenagers

Since I don't speak any language other than english, I'd prefer my music to be in english. I like to know what a song is about. But for songs with real meaning, I find that some american/canadian bands can be great. This is biased considering I have never listened to music that is not in a language I can understand. Of course, I don't listen to the main stream bull shit that is contantly being shat out by the media. Underground music is usually pretty good, might have more swearing, but it has a powerful message. Sometimes about politics, government ect. I can't really stand songs about sex/drugs/gangbangin. They all sound the same and have no artistic value as far as I am concerned. The reason underground music has more swearing (sometimes) is that when they find a producer, they make sure that their music will not be censored in any shape or form. If they bleep out the swearing, a song can sound pretty stupid. That is my opinion of course.

To me they are. Im not asain one bit but i still prefer asian bands.Like i love american bands like paramore , boys like girls etc but i prefer dbsk , the trax , b2st and such. Just because they do way more. Like asian boy bands sorry but they are better dancers by far. And to me their voices are just better. Also they seem to be able to dress in styles i like more and actually look sexy instead of looking like they just got out of a garbage can or something. Plus to me is that they usually are alot cuter/hotter etc.
Yes most people look at asian bands for hot guys or hot girls. But they also have to like the music not all people are gonna sit looking at a hot person singing and be like drooling. Well not completely.
But thats my opinion

if we're talking in terms of boybands/girlbands yes asia has the upper hand, but if we're talking bands that play instruments i think western bands are more popular.

I prefer American.
I'm pretty lyric oriented when I'm listening to music and don't speak any Japanese or Korean.

American bands are more popular, but popularity doesn't determine ... good-ness (?)

But I'll always choose Asian female solo artists over Americans any day.

i'm not one for asian or american pop, but im going to have to go with american because of the sheer number of quality jazz, blues and funk artists that have originated from there
