Lee Eun-Joo

Career
Born in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, Lee moved to Seoul after graduating high school to study acting. She was first noticed in the mid-1990s as a model for school uniforms,[1] and after a number of television appearances she made her film debut in 1999 with Rainbow Trout.[2] She went on to become a popular actress in Korea, starring in hit films such as Virgin Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Lovers' Concerto and Taegukgi. She also starred in the very popular Korean drama, The Phoenix, as well as The Scarlet Letter in which she did many nude scenes. This was to be her final role.

[edit] Death
On the night of February 22, 2005, only a few days after her graduation from Dankook University, Lee committed suicide at her apartment in Bundang, Seongnam. She was 24 years old. She slit her wrists and hanged herself. The family blamed the suicide on severe bouts of depression and mental illness, and said she had been suffering from insomnia due to the nude scenes she had done in The Scarlet Letter.

She left a suicide note scrawled in blood, in which she wrote, "Mom, I am sorry and I love you." A separate note said, "I wanted to do too much. Even though I live, I'm not really alive. I don't want anyone to be disappointed. It's nice having money... I wanted to make money."[1][3]

Lee Eun-ju was cremated and enshrined in a crypt at Goyang. Hundreds of her fellow actors and entertainers attended her funeral. Vocalist Bada sang "You Were Born to be Loved" and her friends spoke in her memory.[4]

Her friends and colleagues have held memorials for Lee every year since her passing. The 2007 event was marked by a music CD released in her name, featuring remastered versions of her cover performance of The Corrs' "Only When I Sleep" from The Scarlet Letter, as well as tribute performances by her friends in the entertainment industry.

U;Nee

Music career
Heo was known for her sexually provocative image throughout her short music career. Early in her music career, she attempted to create a sexier appearance through plastic surgery, in order to appeal to a larger fan base. Although successful in achieving a sexy image, the changes were quite drastic in comparison to her previous appearance, and did not contribute to increased album sales. Instead of being known as a talented singer, she became more famous for her unusually large chest, as a result of breast implants. Due to declining music industry in Korea, her record label decided that album sales alone was not enough to produce profit, and chose to market her as a sexy singer. Fans of her music decreased while fans of her new sexy look increased, who often urged the singer to reveal herself in Korean edition of Playboy as well as other adult entertainment publications. Heo, who was soft-spoken and reserved in real life, found this difficult to bear.[1]

[edit] U;Nee in Japan
U;Nee is known as "ユニ" (yuni). Her debut single One, taken from the Passion & Pure LP, was launched in February 2006 in the archipel.

[edit] Altantuya scandal
Following the murder of Altantuya Shaaribuu in Selangor, Malaysia, photographs purported to be those of Altantuya were circulated in the tabloids of Malaysia and Singapore.[2] The photographs were later shown to her father, Shaariibuu Setev, who confirmed that the purported photographs were not those of her daughter, saying: "That's not her...don't spoil her name".[3] Readers subsequently established that the photographs were those of U;Nee.[4].[5]

According to The Straits Times, these photographs were posted in the e-mail inboxes of many Malaysians, which was stated with the title of [email protected][6] Shaariibuu Setev, in a later interview by Bernama, expressed his grievance and condemned the press for publishing the pictures of U;Nee that were purported to be those of Altantuya.[7]

Altantuya herself was murdered in October 2006 and her body later blown up with C4 explosives in a jungle in Selangor, Malaysia.[8] Abdul Razak Baginda, a political analyst, was charged in connection with the murder of Altantuya.[9]

[edit] Suicide
U;Nee died at her home in Seo-gu, Incheon, South Korea on January 21, 2007 after hanging herself.

U;Nee was supposed to begin filming her first music video of her 3rd album on the 22nd of January which was to be released on February 1, 2007, the same time as her comeback.

In the morning of January 21, 2007, U;Nee's mother, grandmother, and uncle left for church at 10 am. During that time, U;Nee had hanged herself in her room 2 meters high from the door frame. Her grandmother found her around 12:50pm and immediately dialed emergency help.

Despite her death, U;Nee's management company stated that they would release her 3rd album as planned on February 1st.

Several stars and friends came to the prayer service held for U;Nee including Maya, Lee Seung Hwan, Kim Jin Pyo, Lee Hwa Sun, Lee Ki Chan, So Yoo Jin, and Park Ye Jin. Maya stated in a short interview that the day before her death, she had received a text message from U;Nee saying hello, so the news of her death came as quite a shock.

Rumors across many Korean sites as far as reason for her death was her bout with depression over her lackluster sales for her albums as well as criticism about her image. After her death, her body was transported to World Hospital. The family planned to have her body cremated.

Soon after her death, her mother held a press conference at the hospital. She confirmed that U;Nee dealt with bouts of depression and was on medication for her condition. U;Nee was apparently very introverted and suffered from all the pressure she received even as a young child.[10][11]

Jung Da Bin

Jung Da Bin whose birth name is Jung Hye Seon was a Korean actress. She was born on March 4th, 1980 in Seoul, South Korea and committed suicide on February 10th, 2007.

Jung Da Bin attended Yongdok Girls High School and Gongguk University. There, she majored in drama for two years. She is known for playing cheerful, outgoing and funny girls. In Taiwan she gained popularity in playing schoolgirl types, especially for her miniseries “Korean wave”. Jung Da Bin's first breakout role was in Korean movie “Land of Ginkgo” in 2000, where she starred with famous star Kim Yoon Jin. In 2004, she played a very funny, animated and outgoing high school girl Han Ye Won in a Korean comedy “He was cool”. Also in 2004 she starred in a drama “My sister in law is 19” or just “She is 19” with Kim Jae Won, Yoon Kye Sang and Kim Min Hee. For this role she played funny, outgoing and optimistic 19 year old girl. For that role she got 2004 SBS Year-end award, as well as 2004 New Star Award. Jung Da Bin did many TV commercials for companies DNS, BYC, LG Monitor, GS-25 Mart, CJ Jelly, KT and others.

[edit] Death
On the morning of Saturday, February 10, 2007, Jeong Da-bin committed suicide in the apartment of her boyfriend in Seoul. She was found by her boyfriend hanging in his bathroom with a towel wrapped around her neck. While no apparent suicide note was left behind, an entry in her on-line blog shortly before her death indicated she was suffering from depression. After the drama “The Attic cat” and the movie “The guy was cool” her career went down. Desperate Jung Da Bin underwent many plastic surgeries which brought more criticism than before. She was also having big arguments with her former management company about her contract . Plus, her mom's uterine cancer was depressing her. She had had hard times, which, we can assume, were her reasons for committing suicide.

This is Jung Da Bin's last diary entry:

“Everything is so complicated. I get angry for no reason and I feel like I’m going crazy. It hurts so much that I feel like I’m getting sea sick. My head hurts so much that I start to tear. I was becoming a slave of my temper. I thought that I was losing myself, losing my identity… Then at that moment, as if I was getting an electric shock, I found peace. God came to me with love. He made me realize my importance and gave me courage. He lifted me up and he said it’s going to be okay. I’m okay”
