Of course everyone liked it at the start..new anime exiting plots..new characters..evolving storylines. But as the others have stated the action hasn't been that many and the plot creation just doesn't seem that good anymore. Dunno about the guys that just watch for fun and all but others have more refined tastes after seeing alot of animes and are becoming more critical of what they want to see and watch

EDIT - I wasn't talking just about Naruto, I was deliberately comparing every anime that people jump off the band wagon.

the reason i jump off at some animes are usually because i dont like the main character or i think it has 2 much drama, romance or w/e...like maburaho! at first i was like: allright, i'll give it a try! and then after 5 eps i was like: o m G! someone kill me before i die from watching 2 much sick cuteness and clumsiness from the "beautiful and perfect" big breasted beast of a main heroine! and i mean, its soooo obvious that they are going 2 end up together (lawl, embarrasing if they dont)! well anyways, because the main heroine looks like a sissy and/or the main character is NOT my favourite character/my favourite character doesent get enough screen time, i usually jump off some animes! i havent jumped off naruto yet though! its not my favourite anime though (and i am currently having a break)

First off, Naruto was always pretty popular. It just wasn't as noticeably popular. Second off, I dislike Naruto not because it's popular, but because I feel that Naruto, as a series, has declined so greatly to the point where I can hardly stand to watch or read it anymore.

if i really love it i keep going (but quietly and without much public mention) otherwise there are three things that will make me jump from the bandwagon

they rush production and end up with really weak subs/dubs
they slow production and end up with way too many filler episodes
i get tired of self proclaimed expert fans getting all uppity about trivia critiques and such

not necessarily, you cannot make an anime and just start off popular.. the fans build up each time they release an episode..
