I think it should depends on what type of anime and what is the theme.

If the anime takes place in modern time and for example is sports related (soccer, baskeball, and such). It is better for it to be realistic instead of defying the laws of gravity and physics.

But if it is sci-fi, then it really depends on the style, but generally speaking. sci-fi don;t have to be as realistic.

If I want real sports, I can turn on my tv you know. that's why I have a preference towards unrealistic sports than realistic ones.

Not really, opening the TV gives you a game. While anime gives you a story, and perspective of players. Its just 2 completely different things. I mean what part of unrealistic sport in anime do you like?

Demonic skills!

lol thats exactly what i don;t like. I mean having made up skills and techniques that defies the laws of physics just defeats the purpose of competition

True but it does influenced people to actually play those sports. Let's just hope that they aren't taking it too seriously either...

Lol, actually i think animes that are more realistic will inspire more people to play the sport. Cus when the goal is possible to achieve, then it is more likely for you to try. But if it defies the laws of physics, meaning reality, there is no point rite? Cus you can never be that good, and you can never achieve what the character did.

actually, that's what I love... because adding fantasy techniques is a lot more entertaining to me. I'm going to take example on a manga (reading) that I like. Captain Tsubasa - It has defying physics and all that and the passion displayed for football was really inspirational. i mean, if a manga alone like that raised the entire level of japanese football in japan from semi-pro to pro level, and several football stars (zidane, totti o.O) have started their career because of that anime/manga,

Why can't they be unrealistic? Unrealistic sport manga/anime so far has been proven to be positive to the real sport world and no less than realistic ones.

That will depends on how exaggerated the series will be. If we take for example, Boxing: Pretty much realistic move in many ways. If we take Initial D: Some Laws of Physic are implemented for racing.

On other hand, If you take Prince of Tennis: Too much Spin control, godly eyesight, and closed eye plays...

To be brief, I just think the author wants to show how pleasant those sports can be along with their imaginative mind

No yiy see look at your own statement. What you like and what made it great was the passion displayed for football correct? So it really isn't the far fetched techniques that is great. If it has the plot, the passion, Etc. There is no need to crazy moves

noo. the crazy techniques contributed a lot more than the story. ct's story is not that great but gave japanese people hope of winning the world cup.
and why does it contribute that much? because people at that time got interested in the sport because of these techniques. u think japan liked soccer in 1980s? no, it was mainly baseball. today, baseball and football's popularity are equal.

Agreed, i mean a part of Anime is creativity, and thats what makes is good. I don't mind having made up techniques at all. Just keep it not too out of reach. And not over do it to a point where even a 10 year old can tell no one can achieve that in real life.

Well lets put it this way. If the Anime has no plot, no suspense, no chracter development, no passion, but only have crazy techniques will it still be good? Like if it is a show that shows you a team of guys and they just go play games with crazy move, will it still be good?
On the other hand, if you take out the moves, but keep everything else. It will not lose much of it's awsomeness.

And to me, the most inspirational parts of anime, are the quotes, passion, and plot.

Realistic animes are nice sometimes, but I enjoy watching unbelievable things done on anime. It looks so much better done in anime then it does in live action.
I get my realistic-ness from Live action
Get my over the top craziness from anime.
