I downloaded the Visual novel and got most of this information already, its pretty kewl stuff, but on a side note something ppl don't seem to realize is that, Archer, Caster, Berserker and so on are all classes, it seems you can summon a bunch of different heros from the history and the future, and whatever their skills are, they are placed into a class, since it seems by knowing the history of the Servant you can figure out a way to beat it, the masters simply call the servants by there class, such as future shiro and gilgamesh both being called Archer.

Along with this the class seems to give the hero traits as well, since Hercules while hes supposed to be a benevolent hero ( and when he died his words to shiro and Saber were very soft and kind ) since hes power fit him into the Berserker class it seems he was given the traits of a Berserker.

Also, about Rin summoning Shiro, I think that there is more to it than just the amulet, remember the hero summoned always had some connection as in a persoanlity trait being similar, ambitions being similar, ...something that connected them to the master, the visual novel brought up that Rin treated Shiro differently because of Sakura, but I also think Rin had feelings for Shiro thats why she summoned him even though she wanted to summon Saber.
Oh and if your interested in Fact's instead of hearsay, look up the heros in Wikipedia like i did, their real history is just as facinating.
Oh and i cant find anywhere in the facts surrounding the "Arthur" legend that arthur was or could have been a girl...nor did it seem he had a daughter. But since by most accounts its all a fanciful legend i guess anything goes.
Oh and i hated that they called the poor girl Saber, a saber is a 1 handed sword with a slightly weighted tip, a single bladed side, a guard, and a pommel, Saber the girl, was using a 2 handed broad sword ( though in some scenes it looked like a hand and a half long sword ), though i guess calling her Broad would be too hilarious a pun hehe. I guess you can say Saber was just the class name for a sword user or something.

Already knew most of it. Each hero is divided into classes, with their tools from legend being their weapons or specials.

In this series, Arthur was a women, just for the series (and the romance). Some things were differed in it, including Medusa not having snake for hair (though that would give her identity)

Rin doesn't know about future Shiro yet, I think anyway.

Being a Saber meant being a well-balanced fighter, making it a valuable class to have.

nono I don't think Rin knew, I think its one of those "hes in my heart and i wont admit it, even though I'm concentrating on Saber in my heart i have Shiro" kind of things and even though she dosen't know Archer is Shiro the "grail" "knows" this and pops him out to protect her kind of thing, its really hard to prove but when you think of the lengths Rin goes through to protect Shiro, think of her ego and her pride in wanting the grail, and then she throws it away continually, for Shiro's sake. She would not have done all that just for the friend of a friend, well i think.

And the saber thing you may be right the Saber class could be a balanced melee class, though if you take it into RPG terms its sorta more like the "fighter class" as in a high strength, high Vitality, average agility, low int, low wis (like saber can use skills but not many spells) type of thing,

Lol Either way loved this anime, do you happen to know if there is an actual game for this and not just a visual novel ?

Saber - Balanced
Archer -Ranged, Master at tactics?
Berserker - Strong, and stats cannot be seen. But can't usually use their noble phantasm (in some cases) and cannot control themselves
Lancer - High speed
Caster - Mana spells
Assassin - Obviously noted.

Well, there are fan games, theres a fate/lion thing on the PSP (japan only) and I think there was a (fangame) Fate/War somewhere...with Shiki in it.
