"HOLLYWOOD's FEVER" unleashes on Japanese animation classics? Read UPDATES below! (Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell, Street Fighter)

So, the new HOLLYWOOD FEVER is Japanese animation classics? Yes, that's right. It seems that's the new trend for Hollywood this year with Speed Racer, plus next year with Dragon Ball, AKIRA and maybe other possible titles. Remember they had the same fever with Asian Scary movies remakes (The Ring, The Grudge, Pulse, The Eye, Shutter, etc) Well, they stopped at Japan, and it seems Hollywood is not leaving without doing the Live-Action of some of our favorite ANIME CLASSICS. Below I have listed the possible movies to come out next year and that are in production in planning, as well as the articles I've found in AnimeNewsNetwork.com, ifitsmovies.com and cinematical.com.

ENJOY, or at least try to!

You all know the movie is coming out today, right? Go, Speed Racer, GO! (Also go support Rain)
So the classic Speed Racer, 1960 Japanese classic was picked up by Warner Bro. and The Wachowski brothers. If you've seen both the classic and the Hollywood adaptation, is the live-action any good?

Dragon Ball's Hollywood adaptation is in production and being filmed, hopefully to be released next year. According to Wiki and AnimeNewsNetwork.com, "The film follows Goku, played by Justin Chatwin, and his quest to obtain the mystical Dragonballs before the evil Piccolo, played by James Marsters, does. The film began development in 2002, and is directed by James Wong and produced by Stephen Chow. It is scheduled for release on April 8, 2009. There are current plans for two sequels."

What do you think? Can they really do this and not massacre our classic? I read also that the companies who worked on the Matrix and 300, are working on the special effects. You do remember right? Goku's blond hair and KI powers and Piccolo's.........greenness? Anyway, let's hope for the best.

AKIRA....AKIRA....AKIRA........my best series EVER is on it's way of production.
Again my research indicates according to AnimeNewsNetwork.com, "Akira is expected to be developed into two live action films with the first scheduled for a summer 2009 release. Warner Bros. and Apian Way will adapt the two movies from the manga. The first film is expected to be an adaptation of the first three volumes. The second film may cover the last three volumes. Ruairi Robinson is directing in his feature film debut. Gary Whitta is writing the script. Andrew Lazar, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Davisson will produce the film. The film is set in New Manhattan, a city rebuilt by Japanese money after being destroyed 31 years ago. No announcement has been made regarding the cast, although it is reported that Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing the lead roles of Kaneda and Tetsuo, respectively."

So............I actually have more hopes for this one than Dragon Ball, but Leonardo Dicaprio playing Kaneda? hmmmm......I'll have to see it.......So, what do you guys think can they successfully adapt it?

So, according to an article I read at CINEMATICAL.com, titled "Is The Wachowskis' 'Ninja Assassin' Really 'Ninja Scroll' in Disguise?"
"So there's a little mystery starting to brew on the net surrounding the Wachowskis' action flick, Ninja Assassin. Over at kungfurodeo.com, there are reports that a new casting call for the flick is proof that the brothers are actually making a live-action version of the classic anime, Ninja Scroll."

So, Ninja Assassin is the next project The Wachowskis are working on, even though it does not have the same title as the classic Japanese anime, there are rumors of its similarities., (for example, the names?)
Either way the best part of this is...................tadah!

Rain is to STAR in the movie, even though the other casts are still tentatively announced, Rain is for sure working on a Hollywood film again!

UPDATE! on NINJA ASSASIN****** ......

Rain working out with the stunt company that worked on the movie 300 to get his body in shape to do some CRAZY KUNG FU ACTION!
He posted these pictures on his website. So here's the EYE candy for y'all!

Sorry for the critical thinking essay I wrote here, but I wanted to fill in to those who weren't aware of this new "Hollywood fever" with Japanese animation. I'm excited yet apprehensive that maybe Hollywood can't make this work. Either way, next year for the OTAKUS fellows of the world, next year is sure to be the Japanese animation year tribute in films.

UPDATE!****** ......(prepare to die)

Sailor Moon in Hollywood? God, please, no!!!
Since I read a lot of posts indicating a Hollywood live-action of Sailor Moon, I thought it was made up...."They wouldn't .....right?"
WRONG. According to cinematical.com and ifitsmovies.com, Fox has gotten director Joss Whedon (Buffy, Vampire Slayer and Wonder Woman) to begin negotiation on the production of the live action of Sailor Moon. The scary part was they wanted either Lindsay Lohan or Jennifer Gardner to work the main role. Apparently they dropped out (thank god), but they're still working on the casting.

Ok, people, get ready! I hope your eyes don't bleed out when you read the "tentative unconfirmed list of actresses" that may play the main roles in Sailor Moon Hollywood Live Action:

Mischa Barton ————–Sailor Moon
Alexis Bledel ————— Sailor Mercury
Julie Gonzalo ————– Sailor Venus
Amber Tamblyn ————Sailor Jupiter
Deanna Casaluce ——— Sailor Mars
Danielle Panabaker——- Sailor Neptune
Maggie Grace ————– Sailor Uranus

A.J. Cook, Elisa Donovan, Amanda Righetti, Emma Caulfield and Rachel Blanchard would play the main villains.

Shit! I really thought they were kidding. This is depressing! I almost feel like I'm writing fiction here.....but sadly this is true!

UPDATE!****** ......

So after reading some of your comments, I heard the rumors of Ghost in the Shell picked up by Dreamworks. Here's the article that I read at AnimeNewsNetwork.com:

"The American film production company DreamWorks has revealed that it has licensed the rights to adapt Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell cyber-police manga into a 3D live-action film. The story of an elite paramilitary unit in future Japan has already been adapted into three animated films and two television anime series. What turned the dealmaking in DreamWorks' favor was co-founder Steven Spielberg's enthusiasm for the project. The entertainment trade newspaper quotes the acclaimed director and producer: "Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories. It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."
Avi Arad (formerly of Marvel Studios as well as of the Spider-Man and X-Men movie franchises), Arad's son Ari, and Seaside Entertainment's Steven Paul brought the project to DreamWorks and will produce. Jamie Moss (Street Kings, Last Man Home) has been assigned to script the project."

So, I'm not sure if this is going to be a Live-Action or a 3D version. But either way the rumors are out!!!! and they are working something with Steven Spielberg, so just wait for it.

UPDATE!****** ......

So, a few of you posted as well the rumors of another Street Fighter movie? Well, you guys were right. If you go to kontaku.com, you'll get more information on the actors and maybe more screen shots.

Street Fighter, again? Because 1994 and Van Damme were not enough........the new movie to be released next year is called, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

According to articles I read at KOTAKU.com, " They're still making the Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li flick, and yet, there's already talks of sequels! The film's scribe Justin Marks, who's also adapting Voltron and HE-MAN for the silver screen, says:
'There are always plans [for sequels]. We've seen this as being a really drawn-out way to explore the Street Fighter world. Start small, then go bigger and bigger, bringing in more characters and eventually spinning it horizontally to explore other threads and origin stories.'

Meaning if this movie does halfway decent, we can possibly look forward to the likes of Street Fighter: The Legend of Ryu, Street Fighter: The Legend of Guile and Street Fighter: The Legend of Dan. They probably should've started with Dan. You can only go up!"

Hollywood.com,
" Synopsis:
When General M. Bison takes high-ranking hostages and demands $20 billion in ransom, he pushes an already incendiary crisis to the brink of global conflict. Meanwhile, Colonel Guile''s rescue mission remains stalled until the hostages'' location can be determined. Guile and his British intelligence officer, Cammy, must recruit two unlikely heroes, small-time hustlers Ken Masters and Ryu Hoshi, in an audacious plan to locate the sadistic general''s futuristic secret fortress. But their entire plan is nearly derailed at the last moment when GNT news correspondent Chun-Li Zang, who wants much more than a story, intervenes. "

Here's an official screen shot. There's a lot of articles out there, so you can just type in google.com the title of the movie, or go to kotaku.com and read more info if you're interested.

LOL......I never knew the list would grow this much. But hey! is the HOLLYWOOD ANIME CLASSICS LIVE ACTION FEVER!

i dont think its a good idea for hollywood to make movies out of these good anime. speed racer doesnt look that good at all and the rest of the movies sound like they are going to fall into the bad movies categorie. this is just my biased opinion.

Why don't they also do a Americanized version of Sailor Moon and Pokemon while they're at it? -_-; I can't really think of any successful "anime-taken-up-by-Hollywood." Its kind of sad that Hollywood isn't the same as it was back in the days of Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.

Speed Racer doesn't look that good to me. The only reason I'd watch it is because its from the creators of Matrix. I was interested in seeing DBZ until I found out who the actors were so it put me off.

I heard they are going to do Witchblade in 2010 (i think) and I'd definately watch that.
