i watched all of EL and i thought it was violent, but Higurashi actually made me jumpy. I think it is because EL is more like fighting and combat, where Higurashi is complete insanity and cruelty. That alway seems creepier to me....
That and the crazy laughing in Higurashi is quite unnerving.

Totally. I mega-agree with you, and alot of people probably would too.

You know what. Higurashi is much creepier. Yeah the whole psychotic killer lolis thing as well as a large variety of humor has never been done this way before but it is not just that. It is just the suspense you feel while watching it. Also, I was so confused at some parts in Higurashi (particularly the first two arcs) that I had to go to wikipedia to figure out what the heck was going on. Higurashi is a creepy, scary and surprisingly humourous anime that everyone (at a certain age) should see

But man: ELFEN LIED WILL STILL KICK ASS. I still think they should follow higurashi and make a second season.

It depends though...
..I think Elfen Lied is scarier for younger audiences for obvious reasons..
and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Kai) is just pure paranoia.

Kai wasn't really horrifying, not as much as the first season.

The only real connection I see with When the cicadas cry and Elfen Lied is that they are both gory. Otherwise, they are obviously incomparable. Elfen lied is pretty much your standard Ultimate weapon on the lose story which is pretty cliche. Higurashi is actually creative in that your trying to find out mysteries of a town and after every story you learn a little more about it. They are completely different.

Well, the two animes are great..i cant decide which is better...Higurashi has more twist in its plot than Elfen Lied..but when its about the killing i would go with Elfen Lied...but you cant resist the curiosity that will arise as the episodes in Higurashi unfold...But i usually end up with a correct guess of the plot and what's actually happening...

So as you can see in the upper text it is obvious that i cant decide...

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is most definitely more 'creepy'. It goes at a semi-slow pace and you don't actually get to piece the puzzle pieces together until towards the end of the series (I'm only seen the first season.)
But, Elfen Lied is up there in my 'favorites' list of animes. In fact, I'm re-watching it again at this very moment. Viva la gore~ *hums as she continues to watch*
