just wanna know the answers..

some say its because its duplicated...

but if we define to duplicate, it's actually to make an identical version.. so you won't say, "hey, this is a duplicated thread".. because it's not an identical copied version.. it has a different angle on the topic.. but the general idea is "similar"

the topic is similar but not a copy..

so why are some forum post being locked??

because ideas that could be discussed in the copied thread might have been discussed already in the original...if not then just post your idea on the original thread and wait for someone to reply...

more or less it's the same thing. A similar topic might be one that crosses a similar issue but is unique enough to be it's own thread. for example:
I made a Sex Ed thread which was reported as duplicate. I had checked the thread index and forum search and found no such topics before hand. He was reffering to a thread called something along the lines of "how you learned about sex." However while that thread goes into many different tangents and is just a general use one, mine focused only on Sex Ed as well as a little Abstinence Edu. reference as well, therefore it was a legitimate thread
Something illegitimate would be "Why Do People Tell Lies" if there's already a thread on lying
(there are also other reasons for a thread to get locked. Look inthe forum rules thread)

but it's not ones fault that one didn't notice the first post.. and you don't call it original post, coz the second post is not a copy as what i've said before..

again, look in the rules. It's your obligation to check to see if the thread has been made before. All you do is use forum search and thread index. And yes the second post is a copy, maybe not exactly but in essence covers the same material. That's a copy which makes the first the origional

Who wants a duplicate thread? I betcha you would hate your clone if the clone is as popular as you and was currently dating your number 1 crush.

Similar threads are locked because you can just discuss that already in the appropriate thread, no need for two of basically the same. Other threads are locked because of personal issues, just plain stupidity, arguments going to extreme, like flame wars, Posting inappropriate images as a thread, etc. There are just many reasons why they're locked.

and who's to blame for a user being ill informed?
The forums? the other users?

no.. the original poster is to blame so if the person does post a duplicate then
they know next time to search before posting a thread.

I did it once, eventually almost everyone does it.
It's more a tool for teaching people to do a forum search.

If the thread goes against the Forum Rules, then it get's locked. Naturally there's some grey area that is up to the moderator to decide if it's appropriate or not.
