Hmmm, I do admire the person who wrote the essay... I totally agree with him... But I know that we, filipinos, love our country... it's just that, the government is corrupt... but we cannot blame the government alone... we also have our fault because we allow them to abuse us... and I guess even if we speak they won't listen because the government only think of themselves and only think of having powers... We love our country right? so we must do something to save it... sorry for the grammar...

Am I the only one who wasn't as touched by this as I should be?

Whoever said that the Philippines was a poor country is a complete lie.
Our budget every year reaches up to billions, but how much of that will really be spent
on the philippines. What percentage of that will actually reach the mouths of hungry Filipinos.
There have been so many discoveries made by talented Filipinos that has the potential
to generate money, income, work, investment etc. But what does the government
do about these, absolutely nothing! Why? they say lack of budget. nonsense.
Who benefits from these discoveries? the rest of the world EXCLUDING the philippines.
What happened to the guy who discovered that water can fuel car engines?
Sold the patent to Japan. Once again, we're on the losing side.
The philippines is so rich in natural resources, but what I find hilarious is that
these resources are actually owned by foreigners. The government allows foreigners
to take ownership of our beloved resources for short term income.
Filipinos are just waiting for that day when every peice of land in this country of ours will be owned
by anyone BUT Filipinos.
My point all boils down to, Philippines isn't a poor country(at least it shouldn't be)

With that point aside, here's my take onthe essay:
Korea is lucky because they had their president Park to save them.
We also have a lot of President Parks in our country who wants to save us.
But where are they now? Sadly they did not have enough money during the election period.
I think we all know what happens during election so I don't need to further elaborate.
I repeat, there are so many great potential leaders, so many potentail president parks,
but their power isn't enough to save us.

This lack of love and patritsm only applies to a small percentage of wealthy Filipinos.
The majority does not have time for this bull becase survival is more important than anything else at a time like this.
I think what I really meant is, we want to love our country, but we seriously do not have the luxury to do so
and even if we do, how much of an impact will it really be able to bring.
We are so damaged that it's nearly impossible start over again.
We weren't like Korea back then who had absolutely nothing
Like what I've said earlier, Philippines isn't a poor country,we have enough money (borrowed) to rise from this
poverty, the problem is, care to take a wild guess? That's right; corruption.

I guess being an economics major in this country, I've become quite a pessimist, so to me
everything boils down to corruption.

i think.. corruption is the main prob. here. but, also.. we are fond of buying and selling goods from diff. countries. like it or not, we are also the reason, filipinos why foreigners think the other way around..

most of us said that we love our country, yet, we patronize imported goods..
we said that we love our country, yet, when we are in the diff. country, it seems like we are not filipino anymore.
we said that we love our country, yet, we try harder to speak in diff. language, than speaking in filipino when occasion comes.
we said we love our country, but how come their is this big wall separating the riches from the poor
we said we love our country, but, we always do bad things, that not only hurt our fellwo filipino men, but also our country

maybe, we filipinos do love our country, but sometimes, their are things that made us forget that we are truly filipinos..

this is just my opinion to the situation happening here in the philippines, that even, the foreigners noticed about it.

the essay that this korean guy wrote states all the things that he sees in our country. we should not be angry at him, because, he was stating his opinion.. maybe, this is the time for us to change some things for the betterment of this country and let them see what truly filipinos are made of...

gonna post this to my multiply account

Im on your side.. Just like what I have posted earlier the thing of being patriotic only works decades ago.. But now its totally different Filipinos need money than loving its own country.. Even if you say you/we love our country but who else does? Only the ones reading the thread? No matter how we love our country, but its mainly the government to be blamed.. WE should not be held responsible if there are corrupt people since their power alone can suppress our wills to fight for our beloved country. There might be some who remains loyal but majority does not. .Why? may I ask whats the brand of your clothes, shoes, jeans and where they are made? Is the spirit of patriotism still there? What happened to those politicians who want to a better life for filipinos did they won the elections? NO right? If theres a thing that I can compare to us FILIPINOS its GREED. We might need a miracle for the Philippines to progress but as of now I truly believed we will still stay in the lowest status. Who loves a country that all you can get is poverty, corruption, inhuman.. Filipinos are humans too we get tired of the same hardship we take everyday.. Sometimes needs is more important than love but it is still love which causes your needs... "Sometimes love for family is more important than love for country..."

i cried upon reading this.....essay...excuse my grammar...i heard so many times from my elders that philippines was once the richest country in asia..truly so many times we filipino cried corruption here, corruption there....truly there is so many problems that filipinos are facing right now...but never in our busy minds that we ever think of being patriotic,,,do we know the meaning of patriotism????? many of us dont give a damn as long as there is food on our tables.....he is so right....and i wish and hope that we filipinos dont collaborate with this so called corrupt politician and soon we realize the true meaning of patriotism....thanks for this eye opening essay,,,hope to meet this person and his family.........God Bless you and your family.....

patriotism in a way means love to the one's people. it's different to nationalism because it refers to the country or the nation-state. patriotism is more correct because there are cases that some collective people or race that still doesn't have their own recognized country, but they deserve to have their own.

naturally, we are all to blame. but leading the people is one of the most important role of a government, with all its political and economic might, it should use all its power to further national development, not the promotion of interest of an elite few.

to clearly view this, we must look closely who usually seats the government posts or from what social group they truly belong to, which its interests are they actually promoting.

being a filipino and having the chance to read an inspiring message for the philippines, that was written by a tourist i am ashamed and speechless. here in cr, many filipinos doesn't like to be a filipino or should i say they accepted that they are filipinos but crab mentality is what's in their heart. corruption is not the main problem, as what he says, we lack the passion to give our country the best, we lack the love for our country. we just take advantage on what's the country is giving to us. all we do is only give and take. you see,

i realize that we are given the chance to study the life of our national hero right? we attent the class, we read all of his works, but do we put in our heart the meaning of every word and every phrases that we have read..? if we put that in our heart and mind, we don't have to be reminded by a korean or any other people from other country

i am great full that we have the time to read this and put it in our hearts, for me, we should have known this for so long. we shouldn't be blinded by the negative situations in our country.

this is my point of view. i hope you get what i mean. MABUHAY PILIPINAS!
