When was the first time you saw Grave of the Fireflies? For me, it was in 1997, and the anime adaptation was the first anime I had ever watched. I was hooked, instantly. To this day, I have never seen anything that made me cry so much.

I was working at Blockbuster Video when it I saw it. That was 1998. I have never cried so hard from a movie or anime. But I cry when I saw the newsreel footage of all of that. I'm kind of sensative. A few days after I watched the anime, I told a friend about and started to cry again

I saw the anime first (thanks to a debate on which film was sadder - GOTF or Testament (the 1983 one about nuclear war). I thought GOTF was sad to the maximum, and Testament was sad, yet ominous and a bit creepy (when will the radiation kill everyone off? Are these the end days for humanity?).

I almost immediately watched the live action movie, and I have to say, I prefer this one a little more. Seeing real people go through this horror, and Setsuko, poor Setsuko. She couldn't have been older than 5 when she died, and the actress portraying her was PHENOMINAL.

J-cinema (as I think it's called?) is badly underrated in my opinion.Especially whan compared to a lot of the crap Hollywood puts out.

7 years ago, when i was in 6th grade. i saw it with my class. The anime version. It was so sad we actually made a war memorial. But ww2 60th anniversary gotf came out as a live action. I saw that in 2005 and 2008.
