Do you think Japanese People are the only ones who can become "Manga Artists"?

You see, I'm not a Japanese and I don't live in Japan but making manga someday is really my dream.

So, for the people who are not Japanese and who doesn't live in Japan but wants to be a manga artist someday, do you think Japanese People are the only ones who can become Manga Artists?

No flames please.

Of course you can become a manga-ka!
It doesn't matter if you're not Japanese or you don't live in Japan.
All you need is.. (in really basic terms)

1. Major determination
2. The ability to handle immense amounts of stress
3. An interesting story line
4. Good characters
5. An ending that leaves readers satisfied.

Just wondering, did you draw the picture on your avatar?

I agree with riavan, above:

"I think you would need to be culturally aware of japan though, theres quite alot of things that come through in manga."

also, i get a bit annoyed when non-japanese manga drawings/art style isn't like japanese manga style.. it seems a bit to be impersonating.... to me... maybe
but good luck at becoming a mangaka~! XD

yea anyone can become a mangaka if they try, it don't matter whether what kind of culture that they where born in or whatever.
yea i do like reading the japanese way but i don't see why they could just flip some books so they could be in japanese format so people wouldnt complain and it wouldnt upset the japanese culture. for example pigs bride is a read left to right manga, i don't like reading it that way but its a good story, so i still read it.

If you live in China, Korea, or Japan, you can become a manga-ka, or manhua (chinese) artist, manhwa (korean) artist.
It's because in the US or other countries, I don't think comic books are as popular as mangas in Japan.
It would be hard to find a publisher, and even if you do, it would be hard to make a living being a comic artist.
It has nothing to do with your ethnicity, as you asked if only "Japanese people" can become manga-kas or not...
It has more to do with the place you live in, and the culture you are surrounded by.
Of course Japanese people would have more advantage in every way, from being in a society where mangas are vastly popular to being surrounded by the manga styled art from childhood; because honestly, some foreigners just can't get the right manga art style feeling when they try to draw manga (yes, I've seen some). So it does help to be exposed to such art styles at a young age.

Good luck at becoming a manga-ka! I would like to as well, because I love manga so much, but reality hits my face hard! (I suck at drawing =P) o well! I will root for you on the sidelines, you brave soul.
Give enough dedication and practice drawing lots! I'm sure you'll make it.

You should say:
Do you think Japanese people are the only ones who can become FAMOUS manga artists?
So far, I haven't seen any manga artists who aren't Japanese that are famous.

There is no actual rule or law that says that you'd have to be Japanese to write or draw manga. Manga are basically comic books(or graphic novels, if people want to call it that.)
As long as you're not making a shojo manga, I'd say go for it.
