It's not a race matter, it's regional. Because Stan Lee is a mangaka.

I don't get why an American would only want their work to be published in Japanese... when they themselves don't even know the language... I understand that they are so immersed in anime and manga that they wanna be and do that too... but you gotta learn the language first. And even when you do, it'll still be awkward because you'd either have to pay people extra to be bi-lingual proofreaders or your staff won't be able to pick up the same mistakes because they're not fluent either.

Anyone can become a manga artist but I'm guessing Japanese people would obviously be more recognized for their work than a non-Japanese. It's like students in Taekwondo classes, feeling more respectful or trusty if their instructor happens to be a Korean (the original people who invented the martial arts), not another Chuck Norris.

you don't have to be japanese to make mangas

just have fun while making the manga and advertise it

nope, i dont think so. in the net i saw this non-japanese dude who had a manga, not a comic. i also have a classmate who's really good in drawing and she sort of wants to try to make her own manga so i dont think only the japanese can be mangakas. GAMBATTE ON YOUR DREAM!!

Might be wrong of me to post such things but as long as you get past the xenophobia (somewhat abundant in Japan) your potential is limitless I'd say. Also maybe you can start small like writing a novel in Japanese and seeing if it sparks interest and find people interested in drawing for you?

No dang way!

My greatest dream is to become an artist of manga!!( i'm not aisian)

people say that american manga doesn't have the REAL design but i think every artist has a special design!

I do Doujinshi and i love it!

Errrrr I dun think soo..
There are loads of different types of manga/comics from different people
So why not?
But i guess its the feel of the reader to know that the artist is not what the one they want (like in manga they would usually expect a japanese or an asian one...) that makes them feel kinda uninterested?
Well i guess so.
But though if your story and drawing is awsome, no doubt they would love it!!
so, Gambatte!!

It's best if it is in English though so that more people (as it is like the language most people know) would be able to enjoy it.... Because i really get annoyed when there is a manga i really love but it is in chinese.. Because i am Malay and the company that makes manga in Singapore(where i live in) is ChuangYi and it is always that it is in chinese that the manga is updated faster and cheaper... No offence. Plus, there are manga that are available only in chinese!!! So i had to go over the internet to buy english versions... Well thanks to the internet world!

Of course they're not! If a black guy can become president, then a non-Japanese person can become a mangaka!
