SARS Fansubbers prohibits their subbing projects to be used on streaming sites such as crunchyroll, veoh, livevideo etc. they have started monitoring these sites and when they find their work being used, they request the site to remove it. crunchyroll is just being respectful of other's people hardwork. SARS work can be viewed on mysoju. part of the problem is that people were uploading their work without giving them proper credit, and to sites that charge subscription fees. the fansubbers could get in trouble legally if they sub dramas that are shown on fee-based sites, and the proper licensing fees haven't been paid.so sites that ask for donations are asked not to show their work.

So just to set the record straight for everyone, what happened? How come CR is against SARS fansubs now? I know I can find it on some other sites that have been listed (and thanks to the listers!! I was sooo sad when I thought 'this is it' )

This is partially correct. SARS does not actively search Veoh, LiveVideo, CR, or Youtube on a daily basis.
We do allow our releases on stream sites but with a catch... the uploader has to contact us first for permission so we know what's going up and where. There's only been a couple of instances when we've contacted CR to remove something. One was for "Tokyo Wankei" which was a re-encoded file with additional links, watermarks that were not originally there in the final release. The other was for Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi) because ALL 3-4 different uploaders ALL neglected and failed to contact SARS with their intentions. Veoh and Youtube is very strict with their copyright infringement regulations and most of our videos have been removed by the "system," and I think it would serve CR better if they followed suit.

On that note, some file sharers for the popular Japanese p2p programs: Winny and Share, were busted by law enforcement agents in Japan recently for sharing anime RAWs.
A bulk of jdrama RAWs came from these 2 programs (although Share has been used a lot more since encoders switched from Winny to Share). Now frightened drama encoders have stopped encoding and uploading RAWs mid-season. There's still a few that are around... but who knows for how long.
In the near future, RAWs will be harder to find and thus making it harder for fansubbers to fansub. But that's only a piece of it. Fansubbers have to face the legal consequences as well.

So besides all the details I listed in my previous post, this is one of SARS' concerns as well.
CR is known on the internet as a hub of pirated material and most viewers don't give a shit about where the subtitles come from. But it's only a matter of time before SARS gets cease and desist letters.

Finally, don't you guys want to shake the stigma that is associated with CR, as being an illegal pirate hub?

I think I might know the reason...some fan-subbers want the fans to watch it for free but since CR takes donation and charges for better view, the subbers doesn't like it. They work very hard on subbing for free to all fans while someone else is using it to make money. One of my friends got a note from a subber saying these for my friend to take out the files that she put it up on CR.

That's correct, fansubbers actually don't like a lot of streaming media sites because they don't see profiting off anime via donations and advertising revenue as ethical. They released the media for free at high quality, why then is someone uploading their stuff onto a server, charging people for a high quality that was free to begin with, and then earning money from it? (This goes to a vast majority of streaming media sites, not just CR).

Let's also add that CR recently got 4mil in investment by a private equity company.

Go economics go!

My sentiments exactly...
I've never liked the fact that CR accepted donations or charged for higher quality views... Ads? I still see them.

Its THEIR subs, they can do whatever they want with THEIR subs. Uploading their drama to streaming sites means that the site benefits monetarily for the things they provide for FREE.

sars has, in any way, all the rights over the subbed drama... They provide it for free, they just think that asking for permission to post is a form of respect, that's what shinji is thinking... He doesn't want any flaw in this online world relationships...

Anyone has the right to post their OWN fansub of a show. So if you can get a RAW file, translate the dialog yourself, and then encode the subs, I'm sure everyone would be glad to see it posted!
It may not be an exact issue of legal "owning" but that's the etiquette in the fansub community.
CR themselves have a list of fansub groups that don't want to be on CR, and CR requests you NOT upload them. They try to filter new uploads through the list, and go back and pull things down that aren't suppossed to be there.

Posts like darklight96's really show how people take advantage of the fact that fansubbers are around.
We do not own the series, but we do own the subtitles.

A majority of the time, people contact us to post to CR, and I've gladly allowed that. Recently, a number of random people haven't been doing that for Zettai Kareshi. It doesn't take much time to send an email to the group with a, "Heads up! I want to upload this to CR, is it okay?" It's just proper etiquette in the community.

Some of you do understand our reasoning, which I'm thankful for. But for those that don't get it, here's some of the main reasons:
Although we appreciate that fans want to upload our work to other methods of distribution, we would appreciate it if you would just point people to our site to download through torrent or IRC.

>We're paying for IRC bandwidth, so we want people to use it! It doesn't help us if traffic is driven elsewhere instead of our site.

>Torrents help when people seed and share with the community and our IRC chan is there for fans to chat with one another while downloading.

>I hate to say this, but the quality on CR is awful. It hurts my encoding soul to see 2-3 hours worth of encoding time be reduced to a pixelated flash file. I prefer Veoh's quality over anything else as far as streaming goes.

SARS as a whole has always been on good terms with CR. Some series that we've subbed are still on CR, so we haven't entirely neglected our fans here.

It just saddens me to see how some fans are so quick to flame fansubbers like this. Do you really care about the fansubbers or do you just want your god damn fansubbed dramas no matter what (screw fansubbers)?
SARS is far from being selfish. We are subbing for the fans, we release at a fast rate for the fans, we invest 30+ hours a week collectively to pump out 1 new release of a series... do you still consider us selfish, arrogant, pigheaded?

Please understand our reasoning behind this decision and don't be too quick to flame us based on nothing but hearsay.
When this drama has reached it's half way mark, I'll re-consider the decision of allowing Zettai Kareshi/Absolute Boyfriend back on CR. Until then, please support us in this decision.

Fist of all I want to say that I do support FanSubbers from many different forums and sites. I dontate and contribute as I can. I realize that there is a lot of hard and dedicated work that goes into these episodes. And I have posted many things to defend them on other sites. Subbers have talents and abilities that I don't, and I am greatfull.

My comment was mainly dircted at the very rude remark left on SARS about people being 'jackasses' for loading the subs. There was no need for name calling like that. Comments like that give a very negative impression. To me at least it sounded like SARS was being arrogant in their 'owning' of the subs.

I'm sure most people were just upset that one of their favorite shows was removed and no real explination was given. All that needed to be done was to explain what was going on, just like mercilesswarior stated previously, I'm sure most of us would have been appreciative and most of the negative comments that have been made would have been avoided. And no, you don't 'have' to tell us anything, but to keep the 'etiquette' that you like to throw at us veiwers, a nice little hey this is why we removed the show would have been nice.

And although I may find it hypocritical of someone to say that they have always been on good terms with a person/site that they in this post and previous ones state is awful and a hub of illegal pirated materials, I do respect what SARS does for us veiwers.

honestly i read it too, and they didn't offer any reasons why. You know why I like crunchyroll because I can log on and watch dramas. I don't have to upload the episodes that take hours to complete onto my computer. I thought it was a great system that Sars make the subtitles and then crunchyroll uploads them onto their site to display. I mean, SARS definately need to have the credit for their work, no doubt about that, but then let sites like crunchyroll display it for the fans that want to watch them. Isn't that one of the reasons why they sub these dramas? for those people who aren't as fortunate as to be able to understand the language? Well no hard feelings, I'm just kinda sad that this happened because now I won't be able to be updated on what dramas are coming out and what cool things are happening..

hey I agree, someone should have left a reason for why they didn't want the dramas loaded up, instead of just calling names. Honestly, if it's because you want us to appreciate the subbers, no need to ask twice. If it wasn't for you guys, then there wouldn't be a reason for me to be interested in dramas because I wouldn't understand it. If you need us viewers to come and check out sites to help you keep going, just give us a heads up, I mean you have our total attention now, at this moment, because you guys have requested to withhold a large majority of your subs. And yes, many people just come and watch the dramas and take you guys for granted, but many people appreciate it. Forgive the people who are rude and complained, they are probably angry that their favorites shows are gone, but others appreciate it. Well I hope something can be worked out so that we can still get to watch those dramas, because crunchyroll is my onestop shop to connecting with the asian internet community and checking out what is hot..

I was watching it here in CrunchyRoll then suddenly all of the videos were gone.. I hope that other fan-subs groups will let their videos uploaded here at CR.. Like B.O.N. Fansubs and etc.. I don't want to watch at Veoh.. The video loads very slow.. And you have to download that VeohTV before you'll be able to watch it whole..
