here's what i dont get .... does SARS own this series? or just fan sub it? if they only do the fan subbing, then despite what they think they dont own the subs. anyone has the right to post it as they please. for them to call anyone that posts their stuff "jackasses' only shows their own arrogance and pigheadedness.

SARS kinda owns the subtitles
ALOT of hard work goes in to subtitling
trust me. it takes tons of time out of the fansubbers life to provide FREE translations of your favorite dramas.
so i wouldnt blame them for claiming thier right to there fansubs.

what i dont get is what they have against CR...?

SARS Fansubbers prohibits their subbing projects to be used on streaming sites such as crunchyroll, veoh, livevideo etc. they have started monitoring these sites and when they find their work being used, they request the site to remove it. crunchyroll is just being respectful of other's people hardwork. SARS work can be viewed on mysoju. part of the problem is that people were uploading their work without giving them proper credit, and to sites that charge subscription fees. the fansubbers could get in trouble legally if they sub dramas that are shown on fee-based sites, and the proper licensing fees haven't been paid.so sites that ask for donations are asked not to show their work.

This is partially correct. SARS does not actively search Veoh, LiveVideo, CR, or Youtube on a daily basis.
We do allow our releases on stream sites but with a catch... the uploader has to contact us first for permission so we know what's going up and where. There's only been a couple of instances when we've contacted CR to remove something. One was for "Tokyo Wankei" which was a re-encoded file with additional links, watermarks that were not originally there in the final release. The other was for Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi) because ALL 3-4 different uploaders ALL neglected and failed to contact SARS with their intentions. Veoh and Youtube is very strict with their copyright infringement regulations and most of our videos have been removed by the "system," and I think it would serve CR better if they followed suit.

On that note, some file sharers for the popular Japanese p2p programs: Winny and Share, were busted by law enforcement agents in Japan recently for sharing anime RAWs.
A bulk of jdrama RAWs came from these 2 programs (although Share has been used a lot more since encoders switched from Winny to Share). Now frightened drama encoders have stopped encoding and uploading RAWs mid-season. There's still a few that are around... but who knows for how long.
In the near future, RAWs will be harder to find and thus making it harder for fansubbers to fansub. But that's only a piece of it. Fansubbers have to face the legal consequences as well.

So besides all the details I listed in my previous post, this is one of SARS' concerns as well.
CR is known on the internet as a hub of pirated material and most viewers don't give a shit about where the subtitles come from. But it's only a matter of time before SARS gets cease and desist letters.

Finally, don't you guys want to shake the stigma that is associated with CR, as being an illegal pirate hub?

*claps
thank you for the VERY valid explanation of the so called "discrimination" against CR.
i feel bad for the guys who got caught with the RAW episodes though.

I think you can download it from SARS's main page.

There is another way around the problem with loading on Veoh. Using various available *ripping* sites online, you are able to rip the shows off Veoh and watch it as an FLV file. That puts you at risk from copyright laws though.

I think why people prefer watching the stuff streaming is because of the time involved in downloading it using BT. There is also with the copyright issues involved. Watching it streaming is still a gray area in legal sense. It is not *that* illegal as compare to owning a copy of the show because it doesn't really stay on your hard-drive.

One of the reason which pissed fansubbers off, me somewhat included, is the thought of being used by CR to make a hell-lot of money, around USD$75000 a month or so.

I find groink's post especially informative.

Says groink:
Crunchyroll recently received US$4.5 million from a venture capitalist. Shinji quit school and is now working on Crunchyroll FULL-TIME - and making a living from it. If it wasn't for the availability of fanworks, he would have NO CONTENT to stream. I can't phantom how companies can build their entire business models around copyright infringement. Even if Crunchyroll shut down ALL copyrighted content, they still have that foundation they built. I'm not about to help this asshole in any way!

I'm still kind of an indie subber and personally I don't really really mind how I distribute my work as long as I am not unaware of it. CR is a way for me to pass my not-so-elegant and polished subs to my friends. It would be nice if we can find a way to stream our works safely online. Though we probably are not able to sub them legally (we need our raws from somewhere), perhaps one day we can find a way around this. That's my greatest wish
