I don't know what genre you like but these are all wonderfully written books:

The Poisonwood Bible
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
A Fine Balance
The Road
The Hours
The Clown
The History of Love
The Time Travelers Wife

Just google search them. They are awesome...I'm an english major though so I just like good writing. None of these are exactly sci-fi

Well depends what genre you like.
And there's a 'Book Discussion' thread, you could just go there and read the recommendations done by the users.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, if you want a humorous sci-fi novel.
Sci-Fi: Time Machine by H.G Wells, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov (I highly recommend this one)

Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler is actually one of the best autobiographies I have ever read. If you're curious as to why he went haywire and why he was so Anti-Semitic, then read this book. There's a sequel, Hitler's Second Book, and it contains most of his crazy ideas and the real brutality that went on in the camps.

If you're into romance, then pretty much all novels of Nicholas Sparks are good.

All novels authored by Sidney Sheldon and Mario Puzo are sure to be fantastic. But it still depends though what genre you like and your nature of thinking.

The Deception Point by Dan Brown, way better than The da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons and Digital Fortress.

anything by david gemmell, he writes a lot of fantasy, but not no silly crap, i mean the film 300 was incarnated from his book and troy as well, he also inspire the lord of the rings. but read the legend of druss. took me about 2 weeks to read so its quite a long books, with about 11 different parts, which continue from one another

I've always loved The Devil Wears Prada. The film is not comparable to the book. It's a good read and somehow helps in giving tips how to deal with a hard-to-handle boss.

you should try Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels they r SOOOOO entertaining you will not regret reading one. I'd go with The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic first because there's a lot of things that are explained that will make reading the other books easier to understand

there r 4-5 different series in the discworld universe after those two try with the CIty Watch series with "Guards! Guards!" then if u like it Men at Arms
