Dramatic anime... It's all I need. My favourite anime is Angel Beats. Why?
Hmmm... The main reason will be very high quality in this Anime, and beautiful story. The main characters that have appeared (Kanade, Otonashi, Yurippe etc.) had their own memories of the past, which in a way can happen to anyone of us.
However, on a par with Angel Beats, without a doubt, will be AnoHana. Another anime with beautyful story.

My number one would have to be Gundam Wing. Number one by default because that was THE show that got me into Anime (back when it aired on Toonami long time ago).
Other shows in my top list include: Eureka Seven , Black Lagoon, Sword Art Online, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop and Haruhi Suzumiya.
I usually like shows that I think have great stories and development, or have a certain kind of charm to them.
Many other shows I can think of, but had to list the ones that I regularly return to watch.

Black Lagoon is excellent for gun wielding action.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is the absolute best thing I've ever seen period. But if I had to pick a show, I'd either pick Madoka Magica, Cowboy Bebop, K-On, Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) or Beck.
