I've seen hundreds therefore it is difficult to pick just one.

Childhood:
Macross
Saint Seiya
Dragon Ball Z
Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
Black Lagoon
Baccano!
FMA: Brotherhood
Higashi no Eden
TTGL
Code Geass

Currently I gotta say that Fate/Zero, and Attack on Titan are amongst the finest anime that I've ever watch. Also the animation in klk is superb, but gotta wait to see how the plot develops.

My favourite just has to be Death Note, I've seen so many anime's, and I'm looking forward to watching so many, but so far it has to be Death Note, the clever plot and deep relationship with the characters is amazing I've also recently finished watching Attack On Titan which is straight up there in my favourites

Sword Art Online is still my favorite anime ever.
It was the first one that I really got into, before I became more like an otaku. Back then, I preferred dubbed anime and only appreciated the action genre; Sword Art Online though, I was sitting in wait the night of the new episode counting down the minutes. I could relate to it not only by the fact that I played World of Warcraft, a game similar to Sword Art Online, but also because of the personality that Kirito portrayed being just like myself. Of course, I probably wouldn't have been lucky enough to win the heart of a girl like Asuna, but it would be way awesome if that did happen!
SAO has by far the best story, characters, animation style, action, music, twists, and ending out of any anime I have ever watched, and believe me, I've watched a lot of anime since SAO.
For Christmas, I'm going to ask for a Japanese tutor, so I can read the SAO novels. That's just how amazing this story is; I'm willing to study and learn a tough language on top of work and medical school just so I can know what happens next

I'd have to say my favorite anime having seen Elfen Lied which I believed was my favorite until now. I just got done watching the anime Blast of tempest hands down the best anime I have ever watched. Great story super good development with characters and actually challenges your mind on a level. I never knew what was going to happen or what anyone was thinking. Only one thing the whole show was I able to figure out what was really going on. If you love a great story with a great ending and like something that keeps you on edge and wondering what will happen next it is the best anime for it. I watched all 24 episodes in less than 48 hours so addicting if you haven't seen it go watch it.

I haven't watched too many series, I only got into anime this past summer, but of the few series I have watched, I'm going with Evangelion. I feel like it pretty much wrote the book on what modern shounen should be, and I can't think of too many faults with it overall.

E7 - an absolute must watch
Code Gease - great plot
Darker than Black - amazing characters and plot
Gun Grave - awesome storyline
Gurran Luggen - just a great watch
Durarara - JUST WATCH IT
Steins Gate and Choas Head- there two separate animes but are just pure magnificence
Phantom of the Requrium - great gun battles
Black Lagoon - nothing better than a bunch of mercenaries

I know at least 5 good animes for every genre, ask me if you need a good anime to watch.

The Vision of Escaflowne - first series I ever watched. Such a deep plot line and mad sexy lead male character. Van Fanel <3 Great soundtrack, too.
