I think its horrible to die at a young age with so much ahead of you. even though its not the teacher fault i still think he should of atleast let her in instead of trying to be up tight and slame the gate.from the looks of it she proabably was a few seconds late. the story is to screwy to determine what really happen but it all couldve been avoided if she was on time and if he just had let her in i feel so bad for her freinds and family

First off, thanks for posting a link to the actual article. First off, I have to say, that this is one of those instances where I am glad that I was raised in an environment and sent to schools where regulations and rules were not considered a second Bible. As developing adults, teens and kids need to be informed and made aware of their boundaries, for sure, but they also need to be given enough slack to make their own mistakes learn from them and mature.

Also, I do not claim to be an authority on Japanese culture and custom, but the teacher (who is recieving the blame) seems to be reacting to the incident in a very weird and extreme way. Obviously he is feeling a lot of guilt and pressure for what happened, but living for the rest of his life in a monastary (sp?) sounds too extreme.

Can I also say that I am glad to be in a place and culture where corporal punishment from educators is frowned upon?

By coincidence, the occasional cruelty of teachers was reflected this month in the suspension of seven junior high school teachers in Fukuoka for alleged involvement in beating two students and then burying them up to their necks on a beach as waves crashed in.

Perhaps it is time that an intestigation be made into how certain aspects of the Japanese school system can be reformed for the benefit and increased safety of its students.

The high school principal has also been severely criticized because after the incident on July 6, he called a school assembly to express sorrow and grief but also to remind students that this was the kind of thing that could happen when they are late for school...Mr. Imabashi, who has conducted research on corporal punishment in schools, said: ''The serious legal and educational responsibilities of the principal in the school's administration have been unfairly played down.''

Just because she was late doesn't mean she deserve to die ...A lot of immature people posting and laughing at her death are heartless bastards...I know damn well that you guys have been late to school before so stop blaming her like she was the one at fault..The teacher should of check before even closing the gate..It seem like his irresponsible himself ..

.I hope the teacher didn't do it just to teach her lesson..because that will be hella fukced up..There is other way to punish kids if their late for school..

how can u say its not anybodies fault? maybe they shouldnt be so pushy for on time students then the students wouldnt fall and get their head stuck in a door way and get smashed. its obvious that the teacher should keep their eyes on the door

the teacher shouldn't be blamed... there's a possibility that he/she didn't see the student near the gate...
with this accident, students should learn their lessons and go to school early...
