It was an accident. However, legally, I believe it would be the teachers fault. Their ignorance is no excuse for causing someone to die. Even if the girl shouldn't have been there at that time or place.

both their faults... her fault for falling and coming late and teacher fault for slamming the gate... so it cancels out... although of course if we were close to the girl... wed want the teachers head stuck on a pike

This is quite different than what I had expected.

I expected someone to jump off the roof.

Jesus. One, shouldn't the teacher have LOOKED to see if anyone was left, just inches away rom the gate before closing it? Two; couldn't the student have YELLED when they fell to alert the teacher that they had fallen? I hate to point fingers, but it seems the whole world has a severe case of ME-itis. In other words, it's the attitude that says I'll worry about me and screw you. I feel sorry for the student who needlessly died; but I feel sorry for the teacher who now has to live with the fact that they accidentally killed a child.

I, myself, have recently lost a 17-year old girl that I had cared for as if she were my own child. I wasn't there for her (I transferred to another unit in the hospital) and she killed herself. I know it was not my fault, but the thoughts keep going through my head 'Perhaps she wouldn't have done it if I hadn't left her.' I'll never know for certain if that is true or not, but I DO know this was such a sad and needless waste, and a terrible way for a young, beautiful girl to die, just as it was a sad, needless way for this student to die because someone was enforcing rules that seem to be far too strict.

So......could someone explain something to me? I have watched several J-dramas online, most having to do with high schoolers. It seems the gate HAS TO BE SHUT at an EXACT time.....yet, the students seem to be allowed to wander anywhere they want; and have such non structured classes. Which part of this is false? Apparently, it would be the non structured classes, for I can't see how classes would be so lax, yet every freaking drama I watch about it has the same reoccurring theme in it. Someone, please explain how high school REALLY IS in Japan.

~Well, both of them is at fault. The teacher should have been very careful when closing the gate. How come the teacher didn't see the student dashing? It's just another one of those carelessness and the student should be analyzing things before taking action. But I was wondering, if the student knew that he was going to be late then why didn't he yell at the teacher to wait for him before closing the door?

You know they're right (the proverb) 1 death's a tragedy 100 is a statistic (or something like that) theres like almost 100000 dead in that place with the big storm (can't remember the name) and a lot of children trapped under rubble
back on topic yeah i don't think there's enough detail thats why most things are left to the expert =\
