I believe so. They can feel every other emotion we do. Besides, my Tuffy does some pretty crazy funny things sometimes.

Hello!

.....It is possible that higher-order mammals, such as chimps and dogs - experience their own mammalian equivalent of humor. It isn't humor as we know it, because our sophisticated human intelligence enables a sense of humor based on an understanding of the world. In the play of dogs, for example, or the antics of chimps, we may see something akin to humor. But it's not even remotely like a human sense of humor.

Fish, birds, snakes and insects, however, definitely do NOT have a sense of humor.

I had a huge argument with my friend about this recently. I told him my sparrow was "happy" and he proceeded to call me an idiot for anthropomorphising an animal. He said that animals do not even have the sense to be content, let alone happy. He says that animals simply are... I said "doesn't one have to think in order to be (~I think, therefore I am)?" I agree with him to an extent... It's complicated.

Animals just communicate and use various different methods/body language of showing off how they're feeling. Most of the time these are actions that cannot be read by human understanding. We know far too little about how each individual creature thinks and reacts to really say for sure that they have no emotions. From my personal experience with animals, I have observed that they are not merely just empty shells wandering around looking for food.

If animals had no sense of joy, or sorrow, then you'd have to assume that one could not get depressed. Yet, a dog upon losing a master that it was close with will reach a depression so great that they will refuse to even eat. They will eventually learn to cope with it, or they'll die shortly after. If they have no sense of emotions or attachment, how is this possible?
