I'm a Christian, I've been doing the church thing for a long time, but why. Why do we go in the first place? Do our parent force us into habit? Do we go willingly? And if we are there, are we bored, of do we need a deeper understanding of ourselves? Why do we do it week after week? Or for some other people, Why don't we go?

What do u think? Why do or don't we do it?

So we can worship, hang out with freinds? Seriously. wtf? If you've been going to Chuch for years, than why do ask this question?

To ask why other people do it, since not everyone does it for the same reasons. Maybe he's questioning things that he's been doing without much thought. Who knows? Who cares?

When I was Christian, I saw meaning in neither attending church nor praying, so I basically just went to church because of my parents. I didn't have Christian friends, either, so I just sat in the pews and waited until the sermon finished and my parents were done having meaningless conversations with people they only knew superficially.

As Christians, we go to church to worship God. Church is a place where we go to show our love for God by worshiping Him with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Church exists to do ministry, to help the poor, do community projects, to evangelize, and many other good things. Church exists to be built up as Christians, to go and learn and be encouraged and to encourage others like a family. We go to church also as an act of obedience to God. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Ex. 20:8)

Well, it's to do good, isn't it? At least, that's what people go to the temple for.

You do not need to go to a Church or Temple in order to practice your faith.

what "you" believe is up to you.

If you feel going to church makes you closer to your faith by all means go for it.

But don't go if you don't find any meaning in it.

You should read up Social Norm.

...Or, just a sum up paragraph.

The reason why you do it, is because you are being attracted by something to go there, such as a person or the public. Such an action becomes Normal for you, therefore you go. But for others, it is like a chore, a fucked up idea or whatever, which is one of the few reasons they don't go.

Does that answer your problem?

Just like how mauz15 put it: conditioning. You've been taught and told that you should do it and you've done it for such a long time. Maybe you have found it to be a fruitful activity. Unless you've found a reason not to, you'd most likely continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

In my case, I've stopped going since I've come to realize that nothing really good happens to me when I go and nothing really bad happens to me when I don't.

i dont go forcefully i actually enjoy going, i like hangin with friends...and its not too boring they do tons of fun activities...like camping, dances(not ballroom or anythin) just hangin with people who have the same standards dat i do...not feeling those pressures dat everyone goes through on a daily basis when your there...its fun....as for the lessons it realli depends on whoz teaching their persona and really change a classes perspective on things...and of course you do the worshipping bit...but its really up to the person if they do or dont go...

A church (as i have been informed) is said to be a house of god and is simply a place to gather together in worship and prayer. People go to church so they will feel closer to god or jesus christ and to pray for a good future and health. But people also have to consider if church is right for them not going to church wont make you less of a christian or jew. If you arent comfortable with the idea of church then you have no reasn to go and dont let anyone force you. God is one of the few deities that is merciful and just because you dont go to church doesnt mean you will go to hell or limbo. The same applies for other religions as I have seen, we are all children of god as they say and I dont think a father would punish his child for being who they are as a good person.
