well i dont go to church cuz it is more disrespectful going without feeling anything about the religion
ppl go sometimes because they got use to it as children and others cuz they actually want to worship the holy spirt
parents do sometimes force there children to go
when i was little they forced me to go so i did it unwillingly and i look at it know and i think that was bad cuz i always played around : (

Well I don't do it, but I think that people will continue to go for many reasons.

I guess the first reason would be for the socialization aspect of religion. People go to these various religious activities because their friends do. Plus it is another way to meet new friends.

The second reason, some people actually genuinely fear what could happen to them after death. So most would think, they only lose a little time but gain an eternity.

I think the person should choose to go or not.
If you don't feel obligated to go to church than don't.
Simple as that.

I go to fellowship with other Christians, to learn about God, and to serve the community and evangelize. Some people do it to get points with God, but it doesn't work that way.

My parents forced me to go since I was a kid and I hated it all the more(when kids cry in church parents take them home my parents shouted and hit me till I kept shut and listened to the 'good news') and then there was the Sunday catholic education school where if the boys misbehaved they were made to sit between two girls that was the punishment the nuns choose and I hated it all the more as I was always chosen as the girl. I stopped going to that Sunday school and then my parents threw a fit and said if I wanted to live in their house I abide by their rules I did and went to church just sat there looking at the wall then later I started praying weird thing is that I realised that most of the reasonable things I prayed for came true and so then I started praying like every night I'm not a fanatic hence I would say that you must give people time to decide their faith not shove it on them even though that worked with me -_-" ... I dont mind religion I just dont like the way it is spread people are forced to worship like earlier how when one country was taken over the views were forced on them that totally spoils religion and makes one wish that there wasnt any to begin with

I do agree that people are conditioned into going to church. At one point, I was going to church just out of habit and not because of a notion of faith. Parents also force their children to go to church, and as a child, you are told that it is wrong to question your parents, even if it's about something that bothers you. Someone said that you go to church to worship God, but this could be done anywhere just as helping the poor and doing community projects isn't dependent on going to the sanctuary. One meaning of keeping the Sabbath day holy doesn't necessarily mean going to church but simply reserving that day to do nothing but praise God and give all of your attention to him. No work or anything like that.

It is after all customary for most religions to have a place of congregation, for without it, the organization and sharing of ideas and beliefs would be impossible.

I don't know about the rest but it does offer me the peace of mind. Sure my parents have had influence as well but I really am happy to attend. It's too bad I seem to not make the effort to attend when I'm in my own place. I don't think there's a church nearby that I belong to. I get to attend only when I come home to my parents from time to time. My siblings are in the same dillema except my older sister and eldest brother who each have their own family now.

The last time I remember why

It's because my parents threated me with a belt to go. Very Christian.

I don't go to church, but I believe in God.

When I do go into churches, it's usually when I'm as a tourist on holiday - going to famous churches in Europe.
There is something so peaceful and warming about going to a church... hard to explain.
