EDIT: THIS IS NOT A LIST THREAD, I AM TIRED OF LISTS. THEY ARE OF NO INTELLIGENCE AND ARE A WASTE OF BANDWIDTH.

You are allowed to put favorites, but favorites and best are not the same!!!! Make it clear when your naming favorites and THE BEST ANIME EVER!!!

To be realistic, there isnt a best anime. This is more of "In my opinion the best anime is..." type of thing. Please dont put just one and please explain why. I'll use mine as an example

Favorites
1.The entire Full Metal Panic Series.
The entire Full Metal Panic! Series consists of the original series animated by GONZO, the sequel, which is more like a spin-off, is called Full Metal Panic!? Fumoffu which is animated by Kyoto Animation, and the latest(more mature) release is called Full Metal Panic The Second Raid, Which is based on the FMP novel The End of Day by Day. I usually hate series that seem to go on forever and that have a simple story, but this anime really made it work out. I hate it when anime drag on when you really need to see how things end, however the story of this anime really makes it work out. The characters are charming and are easy to relate to. The script writing is clever. The Mech designs are unique and the mercenaries are cool. I just really love this series.

2.The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
This anime which is also animated by Kyoto Animation is very creative and funny. The things that Haruhi does are way out there and the plot is very original. In fact, I have never seen anything like this in my life! In this anime, the world really does revolve around one person. The trust between particular characters shows human traits of this anime. Every character is loveable and somethings really make your head spin. Don't let the first episode fool you (not that I'm saying you should miss it), but it really throws you off the real potential of this series. You really have to see the series completely through to find the significance of the first episode and then you'll love it.

3. School Rumble
This entry includes the sequel known as School rumble second semester AKA school rumble nigakki; both of them are animated by Studio Comet. This anime is just hilarious. The characters are loveable, the love complications aren't dramtic as they are funny, and everything is just cute. I was really excited when I heard just today that this anime is being licensed to Funimation. The slapstick humor is always on que, the ending always keeps you wanting more, the mass confusion and pace of this series really makes you fall back laughing and holding your sides.

In my opinion,
The best anime

1. Samurai X:Trust and Betrayal
This anime is a prequel to the popular shonen title Rurouni Kenshin. This is not just my opinion and it is actually a very popular opinion. I have proof that there are exactly 1004 people that this anime in the very least is a masterpiece. These aren't just little kids either, but people who REALLY know their anime. This anime has a great atmosphere. I've never seen any anime portray the conflicts that occur so perfectly. The dubbing and original voices are done extremely well and the plotline is just superb. The ending is a realistic ending and not just a crappy happy ending that the viewer expects. This is very different from the actual series and is fact done by a new set of animators and voices. There is no humor whatsoever and this anime is extremely dramatic. it answers all the questions asked in the anime, but could stand on its own and still be considered a masterpiece by many.

2.Monster
This anime was absolutely brilliant and clever. The animation and music really created ambience to create the storys mood. The characters grow and even though you may hate them and wanna kill them for about 50 episodes, they become likable characters. The story is a real mystery thriller that keeps you watching every episode. I watched this series to the very end and didn't hate one character. Many people hated when the protagonists for missing oppotunites so much that they bailed on the series, but in fact (yes this is fact) those people are stupid and ignorrant. The ONLY missed opportunity he had was ending his pain by killing another human being. if you would really think that killing another person is that easy in an anime then you really are stupid and ignorant. Those emotional conflicts is exactly what makes this anime a masterpiece. If you can't handle that then you could just go watch Yu-Gi-Oh. Im sure that you'll always get the outcome you want because he almost ALWAYS wins. That is what you call a simple story for simple people. If an anime was always what you wanted then lets all just give up on anime cause then you would be watching something on Nickelodeon or PBS. Also, every episode had meaning and if it ended prematurely then you would be left with many question unanswered. My ONLY problem with this anime is that it is LONG. That isn't a bad thing at all considering every episode mattered, but I watched everything straight without rest because i couldn' t stop watching it so I was really tired afterwards. This concepts were really groundbreaking and the mental conflicts that the protagonist faced were truly something to think about and that in the end "all lives are equal."

3. Fullmetal Alchemist
Yes people Fullmetal in this series is all one word. This anime is what really got me into the animation styles of BONES. The mysterious atmosphere was great and the plot was amazing. This anime had great characters, creative script writing, shocking plot twists, and great alchemic powers (Science is FUN). The character relationships were constantly put to the test and the charaters had real depth to them. There wasn't just one simple bad guy wanting to takeover the world and someone to stop them, but real motivation to a goal. Some religous things are thrown at you like "stepping on Holy Ground" and "Working in God's territory." This anime really is a masterpiece.

I really wanted to bring this to attention as I saw many anime others list that aren't on mine. So I will explain why.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
This anime really changed the way anime forever. This was a revolution to anime and became a model for many anime to come. This anime was really great and yes also a masterpiece and didn't reach my list but most certainly deserves an honorable mention. This anime had everything, emotional conflicts, great script writing, superb action, and is one of the only anime where the dubbing is by far better than the original. I only had a few problems with this anime. The anime showed real religous conflicts as well as emotional conflicts between people and shown real depth to it, but in the end the whole story was Shinji whining. He was a really annoying character and I really didn't like him all that much. Then ending of the series seemed really low budget and cheesy. In fact, my friend showed the last part of the ending to the class where they show some of the mental struggles and ten go to the "congratulations" ending without anyone undetstanding the series so no one took its seriously.

2.The Dragonball series
I really wanted to bring this one up. People say that this anime made anime popular. I'm hear to tell you that this set the reputation of what anime is to many who don't watch anime. This is a typical shonen title with no depth or emotion conflict whatsoever. Every character has no fear and knows what has to be done. Every main villain was one dimensional as well as the main characters. Let me tell you how the story goes. A really strong bad guy comes along. Goku isn't strong enough to defeat him so he trains to be just as strong as the bad guy. They fight. Some people die and then it becomes the push to create a difference in the good guys power. Then bad guy dies and everyone gets wished back with the dragonballs. Lather, rinse, and repeat. Don't even get me started with Dragonball GT. Was it just me or are these guys getting weaker. WOW Goku can blow up a cities with his hand. He used to be able to blow up planets with his finger. This was horrible is overratted.

3. Naruto
This anime was made a by a really zealous fan of Akira Toriyama(the writer of the Dragonball series). You know what that makes this... A DRAGONBALLZ WANNABE!!! I am expecting the flamers to come right about now. I really hate this series. Please tell me anyone; WHERE DOES THE PLOT TWIST! If you say its when Sasuke becomes a bad guy then you're wrong. A plot twist is supposed to prevent the protagonist emotionally to reach his goal. This doesn't stop Naruto at all to reaching his goal to become hokage. To be more accurate this is more of a sub-plot that is WAY more exciting then the main plot. Oh wait it gets better. Sonce the subplot is so good I'm betting you can't wait to get it started... Oh wait we have to wait through 50 episodes of filler till Naruto goes through training so he can finally face Sasuke. HMMM. The filler hasn't stopped yet. The main plot is that Naruto trains hard so he can finally become hokage...hmm... that sounds familiar... OH YEAH isn't that like Ash training hard to beomce the worlds best Pokemon trainer. There is some emotional conflicts but they are played out horribly. No one should be afraid of the Naruto because chances are that he is the fourth Hokage's son. It's not funny, unoriginal, and simple. There is a genre for anime where a guy sees a really strong bad guy and has to train hard to defeat him... Its called a shonen title. All shonen titles are like this so there is nothing to be amazed about. OH man I must be on crack cause i forgot the most important thing that makes this show totally not suck and makes it super cool and makes it the best anime EVER, COOL NINJA TRICKS. Man i completely forgot that when you have cool ninja tricks the anime totally stops sucking. I'll save my main reason for hating Naruto as a response if necessary. If you can calmly explain why Naruto is good in an intelligent manner then by all means prove me wrong, but as it stands I doubt anyone can prove me wrong. If you say there is great script writing I'll bring up "My way of the Ninja." If you say that there is great plot I'll bring up the filler. In my opinion, this anime is grossly overrated and should stop being praised as the best anime ever. You are entitled to you own opinions, but this is just mine. FYI Naruto's catch phrase is "Dattebayo" not "Believe it" and they don't mean the same thing.

There it is my list of anime and I'm sorry that it's long but oh well. I suggest looking at the titles I've mention and hope that any arguments STAY ON TOPIC or else my argument stands. Please accept criticism with an open mind and I will too; for I too have taken open criticism and stopped liking Naruto the way I did( I never thought that it was the best anime series ever made though).
Bleach is a shonen title, but since it is a way better anime then Naruto I didn't put it on my list. In fact, its probably one of the best Shonen titles I have ever seen. Thumbs up for Bleach. I hope Johnny Yong Bosch doesn't mess up Ichigo's voice. I can't see Vash the same way I see Ichigo. To top it all off Johnny Yong Bosch was the second Black Power Ranger so... well you know.

This is actually a post I made a LONG time ago on another thread and I saved it on my PC because it was my first long post it was so nostalgic. So disregard a lot of what I said on the Naruto section. A lot of it is diffferent now, but I still think its overrated...grossly overrated.

I would probably put Rurouni Kneshin (the entire serieas and OVA) on the first place: The reason, well I think,s best know for all anime fans, this is one of the most famous anime,s and actually there,s are not to much to talk about this anime (that wasn,t mentioned before) it makes me investigate more about Japan,s history (and the process of investigating it was very fun).

Full Metal Alchemist or Evangelion: In my second place I would put any of the two Evangelion was very revolutionary and that,s why it deserves his honor and even now can be a very likeable history, as for Full Metal I didn,t think a new series could casue me so much impact as Evangelion and those great series in his good days, and the fact that they used science as his main poiwer and not magic was very creative and realistic.

Cowboy Bebop: I,m rewatching this series again (I realized that I didn,t saw the last chapter it,s a very popular anime also so there,s really not much to talk about.
(I,m watching Samurai Champloo now but don,t know still where to put it).

Saint Seiya: I don,t know if this is a very well know anime series in america (sometimes I see it traduced as Knights of The Zodiac this is the literal translation for the series in spanish but the original name is Saint Seiya). In this anime we could see good shounen style fights altough the process have become somewhat simple (it,s an old anime very much like Dragonball but it did,nt ended yet) the characters have to get to diferent scenarios to save Saori that include a super strong enemy in wich the battle leaves the main characters very hurted but they somehow managed to get up and keep up fighting, but it,s one of the best classic

Hellsing: Altough many people liked the series It didn,t cause me so much impact as Full Metal or Rurouni Kenshin don,t get me wrong Hellsing is a good series and the characters are good also but It just stay there. (the music is very remarkable I put it at the same level of Bebop of course is not THAT GOOD but is very close)

YuYu Hakusho: OK this is a weird anime if you like good fights with meaning then You would like YuYu Hakusho the characters where fun to see interacting between themselves there was a fight for ever main character and the ending was unexpected Togashi (the creator) is very original in his work and the fights are not like in dragonball where 5 second with Freezer last for 5 episodes. (the series is not large or short it,s fine)

Hunter X Hunter: If you liked YuYu Hakusho then you would probably like Hunter I considered it somewhat like a more excentric YuYu Hakusho there,re not so many fights but you will find that there,re other kind of problems the character must resolve like survival tests and the like Togashi was very clever at developing the series but the series get realy interesting afther the Hunter exam then we will be able to know a new way to see martial arts techniques (that,s right the Nen thing is very original) I,m sad because Togashi was very sick and the history didn,t end the series have ended but the history didn,t thus it,s continued on the manga by the way an interesting fact is that it is from the same director of Rurouni Kenshin anyway is a good series I recomend and that,s not very famous.

I,ve watched other anime but this are the main ones count on being in my top and sorry for the long post

At the risk of sounding like evey other single anime fan on the face of the Earth, I will say that my favorite is Cowboy Bebop. This anime has a lot of action, comedy, drama, and just about anything else you could want in an anime. I laughed, and I cried, but I never did yawn during the entire series. The script is extremely well written. Even though this is a sci-fi anime, it still maintains a large ammount of beliveablity thoughout the entire series. It also brings in a fair ammount of realism in the series, for example, there is still poverty and coruption in the future.

Another favorite is Samurai Champloo. This is another series by the same director. The characters and the script are extremely well written, and for the most part, the english dubing is outstanding. One really neat trick was to use a record scrach instead of the standard bleep to censor a word. Samurai Champloo also had one of the best animations that I have seen yet.

man, you really know your anime so well arx7. hell, that's why i buddied you :D. i can't say i'm as knowlegable as you or some others on it. but here's my two cents..

i think blue gender is a pretty underrated anime. well, maybee not underrated but something like that. i think it had a very good storyline. you could tell where it was similar to starship troopers though. it's atmosphere was also pretty interesting.

i thought samurai champloo was good. mainly filler though, but good filler. what i'm really curious to see is how it will stand the test of time.

i'm also curious about how paranoia agent will stand against the test of time. it was really unique and took on a rare genre in anime that i think has a lot of potential; mystery. the only other mystery anime i know of is case closed.

rurouni kenshin: who doesnt enjoy samurais with god like speed who contribute a good indepth story

FMA: loved it arx7 your totall rigfht science is fun it was refreshing to see peoples have powers and them being able to blame it on science not some mystic force

EVA: wetto capped it perfectly....boo shinji ikari

Bleach: im partial to it i like the characters and the zampaktouh idea

Hellsing: alucard= baddest vampire alive screw blade

Blood+: idk why but i really liked this series i thought the story was unique and fairly quick pace (after the 4th ep) and the ideas of being able to pick your own protectors and give them powers were quite interesting idea

not so hot animes....

DBZ: static characters 20 minute power ups 10 eps for one fight...lame

yuyu hakusho: i have mixed feelings i liked the show to some extent but i felt alot of the characters and villans in particular were just flat out lame....like sensui and the saint beats

I didn't care too much for evangelion (sorry shinji). I can see why some people might like it a lot, but it just seemed too damn depressing.

I feel the same way about InuYasha. I can see why others like it, but it just dosen't appeal to me. I, personaly, thought that the plot was too unbeliveable.

Last Exile - I thought it had a kick ass theme to it. I loved the steam-poweredesque air ships. It reminded me alot of e7, but without the whiny kid the first half of the series. Claus just kicked ass through the whole series.
