Most of the songs people are listing as English aren't in fact English, but American. My favourite English language songs at the moment are Open Your Eyes by Snow Patrol (British but not English), anything by the Killers (American but they sound English) and anything by Starsailor (really English).

Snow Patrol is categorised as a Scottish band, not a British band.

It's our passports that say we are British, but here to each other, it's English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish. Rarely British except in specific situations, such as awards. So, Snow Patrol is 'Scottish', not 'British'.

Anyway, thought the thread was about songs in English, not about songs by a nationality?

^It wasn't made clear at the start whether the thread was about English or English language songs. I used the term British to mean from parts of the British Isles other than England, no offence was intended As someone with English (from England) parents, I am aware of the distinction.

^ If you were aware of the distinction, you'd know that England is part of 'British' and that you can't say 'British, but not English'.

Britain/British = England/English, Scotland/Scottish, and Wales/Welsh together.

If a band is not English, then it's Scottish or Welsh. If the band is British, you can't say they aren't English, Scottish or Welsh as well. So, it's British or none at all.

You didn't offend me at all, but sorry if I did offend you.
