Rosehip 'better than painkillers' for arthritis

Rosehip could be more effective than painkillers at easing the pain of arthritis sufferers, scientists claim.

The pain-relieving properties of rosehip, which has previously been linked to reduced inflammation in osteoarthritis, have been suggested for decades. Now scientists have found that powder made from a wild variety of rosehip, Rosa canina, is better at reducing pain in patients than paracetamol.

It is hoped that the fruit of the plant could bring relief to the more than two million sufferers of osteoarthritis in Britain, many of whom suffer acute pain.

A review of studies, published in the medical journal, Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, looked at the effect of the powder on more than 300 patients who were given different pain-relieving medications for an average of three months.

They found that rosehip was almost three times more effective than standard paracetamol at relieving pain. It was also almost 40 per cent more effective than another common therapy, the drug glucosamine.

Rosehip powder also did not have the side-effects associated with other pain medications, including constipation and
drowsiness.

The team which conducted the study, led by Dr Robin Christensen, of the Frederiksberg Hospital in Copenhagen, believes the powder works by also tackling the inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.

Dr Kaj Winther, an inflammation specialist at the Frederiksberg Hospital, said: "This is very exciting news for arthritis sufferers. Some of the main advantages of taking an alternative medication such as rosehip to reduce pain are that, firstly, it is readily available over the counter and, secondly, unlike traditional painkillers, it does not produce unpleasant side-effects."

Osteoarthritis can occur in any joint in the body, although it is most common in the hands, knees, hips and spine. The disease is caused by the slow deterioration of the joint over many years and tends to run in families.

Whoa, don't the elderly usually suffer from arthritis? This is one of the rare times I've heard of a young person having arthritis. o.o;

I also thought before that only adults suffer from arthritis until i made a research about it. I'm glad that there are alternative herbal medicines for this desease.

since you asked, here's a little of what i know. okay, lots of info, long post. sorry but that's how it is. you could start hanging out at your local health food stores like i did when i transformed myself from a junk food junkie into a health food freak. they have fantastic stuffs, and their staff generally have up-beat positive-minded attitudes.

i have hypO-glycemia, low blood sugar. you have diabetes, which is hypER-glycemia, high blood sugar. so what i know is for me. but i already knew a little, and i googled for 'diabetes' and 'herbs', and from this and my herbal guidebook "Back to Eden" by Jethro Kloss.

some of the following may or may not be useful for you or anyone reading this info. you be the judge. the following herbs are beneficial for diabetes; dandelion root, red root, red raspberry leaves, blueberry leaves. there are others listed. try them. experiment a little. be cautious. try a little at first. then try more at a time. wait a day and see what happens. try more, or back off to less or quit and try something else.

you can find many of these herbs by the pound for $5 to $13 or sometimes somewhat more, at www.herbalcom.com, which has huge lists of herbs by alphabetical order.

also; buchu - for first stages of diabetes. the info says, in all-capital letters, DO NOT BOIL BUCHU LEAVES.
i'm just passing along some extra data i dredged up with the buchu, but i don't know about that herb.

according to "Back to Eden"; also bran, oatmeal, and slippery elm water is good for diabetes. the book has a whole section on diabetes (and next to nothing on hypoglycemia).

Try using stevia for a sugar-free sweetener. this does not work for me, as my body can't handle it, but it might work for you.
stevia comes in the form of actual packaged plant leaves, or refined powder. it is super sweet but zero calories.

BTW, this data in this post is for informational and entertainment purposes. that prevents me from being sued for giving 'medical advice'.

here is some general additional info. this is a general philosophy for good healthy diet.

1) if you eat refined foods, like white bread, white rice, white sugar, etc. (a.k.a. 'white death') hey, that's what the health food store freaks call it, i'm not making this stuff up, twinkie diet, 'continental breakfast' of donuts, junk foods, fast foods, over-processed foods, 'super-size me' garbage, etc. etc.; the 'un-foods' get chewed and swallowed too fast, they digest too fast, they overload your body with too much nutrition too fast and over-shock your entire system, then they overload your blood stream and lower bowels with too much waste, and they do not give enough roughage (non-nutritional by-products) to help neutralize the waste products and help with lower bowel activity.

2) if you eat whole and-or unrefined foods, brown rice, whole grain bread, honey, stevia, whole fruits & veggies, whole baked potatoes, nuts, etc., it takes longer to chew, it digests at a slower and more beneficial rate that feeds the nutrition into your blood stream just fast enough for your body to make proper use of it, then the waste products go into your lower bowels more slowly, and the natural roughage helps to neutralize the poisons and toxins and helps to give your lower intestine something to work with to get it out of your body in a healthy way.

1) will constantly peak-out a diabetic.

2) will help stabilize a diabetic. (or a hypoglycemic).

if you wake up feeling totally rotten a lot of the time like me, you can do a hot and cold dip. i mean hot as you can stand it, then stone cold water. or just go into a cold pool or the ocean and duck under and come out. i guarantee you, by the time you dry off, you will be feeling so incredible you won't believe it. but if you cut short the cold water immersion part, you won't get the pay-off of the fantastic feeling of rejuvenation afterward. you have to go through it all, the whole hot/cold routine, for it to really work.

for diabetes, i'm not so sure. that's why i make a big deal out of adding that this is for informational and entertainment purposes only. technically, i'm not actually telling you to do any of this, or to take this as medical advice, blah blah. anyways, that's the general idea.
