ive played and own most of the MegaTen games released stateside. the only ones i havent played are Jack Bros. and Maken X(yea i know its not reeeeeally, officially a part of the Megaten universe, but Kazuma Kenko did the art, and it had a very similar style), and Revelations: The Demon Slayer got stolen from me. other than that ive got em all. in fact, i got Revelations: The Demon Slayer right when it came out. ever since then ive been hooked on MegaTen. Revelations: Persona is prolly the best one ive played. P3 is good and all, but its really nothing compared to many of the older games. Digital Devil Saga was really good, tho the amount of customization was reduced by a landslide, tho because of that, its a good way to introduce people into the world of megaten. Nocturne is soooo freaking difficult, but completly worthwhile. Persona 2:Eternal Punishment was very good, but not quite as good as the first one. i really enjoyed Devil Summoner too. both Demi-Kids were fantastic for a handheld rpg, but cant really stand up to the console ones. oh yea, for those of you that are real hardcore fans like me, theres a guy translating the original novels that the first game (Megami Tensei) was based on. they are such a great read. heres the link: http://ddstranslation.blogspot.com/2006/08/introduction_16.html
hes got the first two done, and hes gonna do the third at some point, but he hasnt gotten started on it yet.

Well, I love playing the game. It's just that it doesn't have any cool voice actors like I expected.
The monsters and the skill system is awesome too.
Same with the story.
But there's this feeling that you're not really interested in Finishing the game.

lol, I already reached the Final Chapter, but got bored with it.

I see what you're saying. I think Devil Summoner was a good game, but it's not my favorite. Though I admire the slight changes that were made especially with the battle system. I thought it was fun slicing up stuff. :D

I played Eternal Punishment, and although it was nice, it's quite hard to play. You kinda need to balance between befriending monsters and also beating them up. Still, the story is was quit nice, but I never really finished it due to its difficulty. Innocent Sin (the Jap exclusive) is actually the story before Eternal Punishment. Not sure why it was not released, but yeah...I hate it when good games don't get a US version.

Nocturne was not so bad, but meh...I wasn't too impressed by it. I didn't find the story too interesting, nor did I even care if Dante was in it (despite me being a fan of his).

Anyway, I wasn't too into the dark, grim storylines the previous Megaten games had. Persona 3 was more of the kind I enjoyed since it wasn't too serious like the other Megaten games. I like games where bonding with people is also an essential part in becoming stronger and such.

Overall though, I think the games Atlus produces are all very good. I kinda like them more than Square-Enix really, though my current favorite game company is N1 (Nippon Ichi).

Nippon Ichi is great. Right now I'm playing Ar tonelico which I happened to find for a decent price at a local used game store. I didn't expect too much, but it's a cute game and I'm enjoying it.

This is kind of off topic since we're discussing SMT mostly, but since it is Atlus related...has anyone here played Rule of Rose? :D

The random battles are super frequent in DDS, but not so with P3. The monster's are visible inside of the Tartarus which makes avoiding battles easier.

DDS is older and harder to find in most places compared to Persona 3 which seems a little more mainstream. It's certainly gotten a lot of attention, great reviews and has a large following from what I can tell so that definately contributes to the price difference.

Man I love these games, such a breath of fresh air from all that Final Fantasy garbage (I used to be into FF for a long time, but got into SMT in the past few years). The games are hard as heck to find, but if you can get a hold of one, it's something special. I've played (but not beaten) Shin Megami Tensei I, II, and part of If..., DDS2, Persona 2 (both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment), and Persona 3. I also tried out the MMO, which is kind of cool, but makes my laptop explode, so I'm not into it hahah.

It's a slick mix of occult, demonology, and sci-fi. They are definitely hardcore games for hardcore gamers, though. They often follow this pattern: Super shocking events, three hours in a dungeon, shocking events resolved, new creepy shocking events, four hours in a dungeon, etc. I freaked myself out so much with DDS2 that I couldn't mess around in a dungeon for 5 or 6 hours just to find out what happens next.
For those who didn't get in on Innocent Sin it had a white girl who spoke random Cantonese in it:
You just don't get that kind of detail in other games.

Though P3 was good, I kinda like P2's battle system compared to 3... harder and required more strategy... even DDS and Nocturne's battle system are better that 3... Also, when Arisato dies, its instant game over, what the hell are you teammates doing?? They still alive and could throw in a few revives or 2, instead, they're like "shit, Arisato's dead!! We're also doomed!!"... wtf???

Well, aside from the battle system, P3's good over-all... Nocturne and P2:EP are still the best SMT games to me...
