A unitary government is what Britain was during the American Revolution; It was a nation united under control of one rule. There were no separate states or sections creating their own laws or taxes, just the rule of the government over the entire population.

within a basic federal political system, there are two or more levels of government that exist within an established territory and govern through common institutions with overlapping or shared powers as prescribed by a constitution.
e.g Australia Belgium Canada Germany India Malaysia Mexico Russia Switzerland United States

i think i prefer the federal system. more fair. unitary is kinda extreme, dont feel comfortable with it. learnt this in econs and socials. through their pros and cons, i still stick to federal. yupps.

good share....

Federal government is only valid with local issues. In Switzerland it is now mainly a hindrance to making national decisions. The good thing is that all get to vote even on more trivial matters, rather than the politicians making the decisions. But with the EU, the need for ferderalism is pretty much gone since they have to make so many national decisions about the most important matters anyway. Some or many countries do not really have local issues. My own country (Norway) only has it when it comes to where to build things, and the local powers always get ignored in the end anyway. Federal laws are many places not convinient and inefficient. There used to be the possibilty of having an efficient one, but with all the organization of the state and states united (in whatever: NATO, EU, WTO.....) real federalism can only be done in isolated countries. In US it works, because the main matters have been made national through the civil war. It does no longer have real federalism. Many matters can not be bypassed locally.

Well, the United States is generally assumed to be a federal system, though in recent years it's shifted slightly towards a unitary government what with all the "war on terrorism" sorts of things going on, it's become a lot easier for those higher up to do what they want. Anyways, it's probably much more efficient to deal with matters with a single entity holding all the power, even though most people would frown upon such an action. I preferably would prefer that sort of government provided that the leaders would actually uphold the laws they spout out of their mouths (I know this is never going to happen as absolute power corrupts absolutely). However, the federal system really has way too much unnecessary bullshit. I know it's supposed to make everything fair and allow people to choose what they want for the nation, but the reality is that America (using it as an example here) is a representative democracy, meaning that the people don't really choose what they want for the nation; rather, they choose people to choose for them, which isn't always good I suppose. I guess the short and simple way to put it is that nowadays there isn't much of a distinction between the two most of the time since governing entities try to be as amiable as possible. It's just that under a unitary form of government, people can bitch and moan about the rulers whereas in a federal government, a person will feel that they can't really because they "chose the person to lead them."

Government is overrated anyways. Anarchy ftw. (I wish. Utopia is impossible with the corrupted minds of each individual )

To have a Federal Goverment means employing capitalism which funds to criterias. First we have business which is substanically necessary for a Federal Governement
2.Banks control the operable motives of all the citizens which is derived from the economical industry.
3.Sectated population only the applorable rich and Upper middle class benefit from this system allows other to fall flat other their ass.
4.Health Care is dictated and contrited by a few individuals who decipher on which patient is eligible to their system.

America is a perfect example of an emboded Capitalistic or Federal Goverment.

Yet again a Federal Goverment is a broad topic on itself because it can implore governments who are borderline Capitalism and or Socialism.(Canada is a fine example for that). Essentially Capitalism isnt a democracy is a falcified democracy which 10% or more leading the way while the rest has no conception or diety as to what's going on.We call this a Republican Government.<_<

i think federal government is better. i'm not sure why though. i just like the different branches. i believe there are some matters that need the federal government but there are other matters that can be easily settled in a state or local government

While there are advantages to World Government, I dislike the idea of everyone being merged into one giant melting pot of laws and rules. With federal governments, you have other governing systems around the world you can look at it in order to criticize your own nation or others about their ethics and how they run things.

I guess I just dislike the idea of giving the government the chance to go totalitarian 1984 on its citizens. Which would be really easy in a world government situation, as compared to federal. A corrupt government in a world situation would be rather difficult to deal with.

No, I don't trust the government.
