To Save Just One

"One beautiful and sunny day a man was taking a stroll along the beach
when he came across a young girl who was frantically throwing starfish
into the ocean. The man asks the young girl, "Why are you throwing the
starfish into the ocean?" The girl replied, "The starfish were washed
upon the shore last night in a storm, and if I don't get them back into
the ocean then they will die." The man looked around and to his
amazement there were hundreds of starfish lying upon the sand. He looked
at her and cackled saying "Why are you wasting your time? There is no
possible way you can save all of these creatures. By throwing back a
few, how is it that you expect to make a difference?" The young girl
looked around sadly at the starfish that surrounded them on the beach,
and then she looked back at the man and replied "Even if I save the life
of only one, then I have made a difference." And with that she continued
to save as many as she could."

This story reminds me of evangelism. As Christians, sometimes we think that we don't make any difference at all just by sharing the Good News to a person. But that's not the point! You just SAVED a life! The recepient might not have accepted Jesus immediately...but you planted a seed inside him/her. And that's already a big change!

The first time i read the story i was at a youth leadership camp. We were challenged to shared the Gospel to less fortunate children and their families. It had been unforgettable. So i just thought of putting it here at the forums...hope it isn't a bother

Amen, that was a good little story. The guy or young gent as he appears when I read it, reminds me of the world, they don't realize that saving a few is better than saving none, and sadly this is what some christians believe its a waste of time trying.

Not a bother at all, in fact more of an insperation. Thank you for posting this jlo_mei_en. It brightened my night/morning, whatever u might call midnight.

I really like this story. I have been thinking recently. If I died and went to heaven I would have liked to make a difference in at least one person's life by bringing them to Christ. It's really not the quantity that matters because to God every single soul matters. I want to positively influence as many people as I can. I want to be in heaven and be able to point out the people that I led to Christ haha...jk...but it would be gratifying.........*daydreaming*

"I want to be in heaven and be able to point out the people that I led to Christ haha" (AbuaraiRukia)

Glad I am not the only one that wants to do that rofl. But seriously even if it is just one person you have brought to Christ wouldn't that be worth it, what if that one person became an evangelist. That one person you stopped and talked to about Christ just raked in a million lol, that would be worth it.
