A bit madcap but fun video about Eita and Masami's adventure of eating sushi on a conveyor belt while promoting Last Friends. Eita is an ambidextrous person and Masami is really a hyper gal.

EDIT: Good news! Soft subs are up for this video, credits to

Eita, Juri and Masami were on Mentore G June 1 2008, which is hosted by TOKIO. In the show, Eita mentioned about his failed footballer aspirations, how he entered showbiz by being talent spotted by an agent to be a model at the age of 17. The agent inquired about his shoe size to determine how tall he would grow (is this logical? ). He acted in his first movie (Blue Spring) at the age of 20. A recap of his performance in live action dramas, Nodame Cantabile and Dororo were shown. He also displayed a personal article of his, a sports jacket. He also mentioned about his favourite food, yakisoba found in Itabashi-ku, Tokyo which held fond memories of him and his father eating together. The guests had to "duel" with TOKIO in a mastermind-like game to eat the food they desire. The way the game unfolded made it seems like they're dismantling a time bomb The show ended off with a preview for EP 9 of LF and the mugs featured in LF as prizes for answering the quiz. The video is attached below.

Here are the pictures of Takeru's room from the official website of Last Friends. Go ahead and make yourself comfy in his space age/retro modernist inspired room. Seriously, Takeru has a 'Jack the Ripper' picture in his room?!

Edit: Fuji TV 's timetable for TV shows has stated the timeslot for LF SP, thus its' confirmed! Fuji TV's timetable

Accordingly to information provided by Masami's talent agency TOHO entertainment, there will be a SP extended by 30 mins for LF to be aired on June 26! In addition, EP 11 of LF will be extended by 15 mins too. Now that the series is finally attracting more eyeballs, it will telecast the previous episodes again in the month of June too. Strange that the SP will be shown right after the drama ended, is it that the hairstyles of Takeru and Ruka will be phased out immediately? No! I like their hairstyles...

Here's a picture comparing Nagayama Kento, Eita's younger brother with Eita. If you have no idea, the one on the left is Kento.

Kento's first feature drama is Puzzle (2008), a mystery drama with doses of slapstick humour, has arrived on CR. Click here to find out more Here are some screencaps of Kento in the drama. Good genes do run in the family.

EDIT: Previously I was already sweating buckets when translating the excerpts from Article 5 and wondering whether I could have to do the same for the rest of the articles. Boy, was I glad to stumble onto this page and find out fujii_itsuki from livejournal has translated those parts pertaining to the character of Ruka, the scriptwriter's comments on Juri's performance and such. Click here to read the gist of these articles. The uncanny part is my translation is linked to hers so the circle of cross-referencing is completed!

There's a great website in Japanese (Note: the Tokyo-based website is created to promote lesbian and queer culture.) that offers us a glimpse into the mind of the scriptwriter for Last Friends, Taeko Asano.

There're a few articles in the format of a Q & A session and she talked about how the selected cast reinforced the formation of her script. She explained her motivations for the creation of each character, such as in Article 2, Eita's gentleness and apparent feminine traits were captured in the setting up of Takeru's character. In particular, Article 3 is on how she crafted the character of Ruka and her transgender trait was imbued with lesbian connotations. Basically, she wants to capture everyone's attention and she's muddled over her own creation too! Truly enlightening talk from the horse's mouth...

Article 4 is on the LF's main character, Ruka and the scriptwriter's amazement at Ueno Juri's acting abilities.

Article 5 is on the characters of Takeru and Ruka, (refrain from reading unless you have watched EP 8 of LF) click here to find out more. Translated excerpts from Article 5

Article 6 is about Ruka's attractiveness to viewers, Sousuke's character and RukaxMichiru's apparent likeness to Sailor Moon, Taeko Asano's other creation, NANA, some cryptic comments about the final episode for Last Friends and even a comic that illustrates Ruka and MIchiru's high school story!

Article 7 touches on Taeko Asano's view on the popularity of The L Word in Japan, the differences in portrayal, shooting, her most satisfied work to date and the similarity of her other work, Kamisama, Mou Sukoshi Dake (aka God, please give me more time / Precious Time) to Last Friends.

Those are some great articles, I hope now lesbian viewers can forgive her for not making a strictly lesbian character.

EDIT: Click here for translated transcript for the radio program.

Spotted this in the news for Ueno Juri on her official website:-

The interesting part for the following video is when they are asked about what kind of thing they find it hard to handle. Eita's answer is the image of cylinder-shaped things (refer to pipes/tubes, I guess) crawling towards the screen in movies?! Is he visualising the prostrative image of Sadako? He's also afraid of seeing narrow places... perhaps claustrophobic. The best answer is provided by Asami who says that when calling via phone, she's afraid of hearing ' the number you have dialled is no longer in use' as this leads her to think that the user is no longer around or dead?!.

Eita and Juri's responses to her thinking show that they are really chummy buddies since filming Nodame Cantabile.

Asami: Is it scary?
Eita: Overcome it?
Asami: I really can't.
Juri (laughing heartily): She give these words a 'colourful' interpretation on her own.
Eita keeps his eyes on Asami and continues smiling indulgently.
Asami: Still have this fear.
Ryo remains indifferent while Masami is a bit clueless and smiles politely.

今朝の読売新闻朝刊によると 视聴率 笃姫に続いて2位でした 嬉しいですね。

Accordingly to a Japanese fan of LF (could be a fan who just like to write in Japanese), the magazine he/she read stated ratings for EP 10 of LF (20.7%) is just 2nd to Atsu-Hime (25.7%) for last week. As both dramas have Eita in strong supporting roles, Eita is fighting a ratings war with himself. Cue the irony.

On the other hand, Juri is supposedly practising hard in order to play the piano version of 'Prisoner of Love' during the celebration party (on June 18) for the successful closure of the shooting for LF. Always hardworking girl... Eita should have offered to do a guitar version of 'Prisoner of Love' and that will be perfect

At this website Mainichi Daily News, the offspring of Mainichi Shimbun, a venerable and accodale-laden newspaper in Japan, you can find a spread of photographs whenever tv dramas/movies held their premiere, I hereby paste the links below as it's more presentable in its complete form (read: lazy to select and upload all of them).

Last Friends
Giniro no Season

If anyone wants to upload the photos (and increase CR points for the group) and arrange them in properly titled albums, go ahead

I found the following video on youtube and the dazzling effects for this remake of Last Friends trailer masquerading as a B-grade horror flick really tickled my funny bone. Here you can enjoy it and be prepared...

Here's a dmv to relive the moments of Summer Time Machine Blues (2005) when Eita started his onscreen fascination with Juri as Takuma and Haruka respectively, way before Last Friends (2008). There're certain scenes which remind me of EP 11 of LF especially when Juri casts an affectionate downward gaze towards the lying Eita.

First off, I do not work for Nintendo and second, this is a trivia post. In EP 7 of LF, the SH gang are seen gaming Wii with the use of 'steering wheels' as controllers. They are actually playing Mario Kart Wii. So there I've my fix of trivia ...
