hmm. I think it's possible to develop an attraction to the idea of someone that you've built up in your mind, based on your communication with them. of course you can't see the "full picture" over the internet, but then, it can take a long time for someone you've met offline to reveal parts of their personality as well.

after all, it's possible to fall for someone who you only ever see in class, or only ever meet at certain clubs. you could even get to the stage of starting a relationship with them, but you'd only know them from that one context. when you start to meet them in other situations and let them into other parts of your life, they might act differently to how you expected; this could be quite a shock. I guess a lot of "normal" relationships end at that point, and internet relationships face the same challenge. if you add in long distance, it could be really tough.

as for putting yourself on dating websites and such, to me that's like going out into town or whatever with the specific intention of finding a partner, and advertising yourself to that end. some people feel more comfortable in relationships that started that way. it seems a bit tacky to me, but no more so than people doing the equivalent in real life. and power to them if it all works out.

Lol I find it VERY hard to believe that you can love someone over the internet. Theres just so much about a person you can't learn over the internet. Another thing that worries me is that almost 90% of the people on the internet are either lying about who they are or exaggeratting. I don't even make friends over the internet cause of that lol it's just a figment of your imagination. Even if they are completely honest about themselves theres so much you can't show via text or webcam. Your brain is going to supply the missing information cause you're looking for a partner all this information your brain is filling will be believed as true, anyone can say anything on the internet for the most part when I meet people on the internet I say it bluntly to their face that I don't trust them lol.

there is always a missing point in every person you chat into this net...
lying can never flee in a conversation..
