Who owns the internet btw? Are there really laws to follow w/ regards to proper grammar in the net? I think it's more of a personal preference if you want to follow correct grammar in the net. If you have a problem with that then it's better if you just go to an elitist, conservative website where you and everybody else can correct your grammar and spellings with each post. I on the other hand, don't give a damn as long as it's readable and the aim of the website/forum/blog is for users to have fun and to express themselves in their own way.

I actually rarely find people typing like : "OMGZ HAI LIEK dats so Kewlzzz". (That's quite horrifying)
Even if it annoys me, I wouldn't be bothered to the extent where I would start an arguement...
Anyway this is a fun generator that translates your message into the poor grammar that you speak of:

If this continues, what will happen to the English language? I've had English teachers tell me stories about chat acronyms being used in essays. Now, I think that takes a real idiot, but still, that's crazy.

I suppose on a site like CR where there are many users with English as a second or third language, it's just more polite to type everything out. It confuses me when I try reading slang/abbreviated words in other languages. I wouldn't want to confuse others by doing the same.

I personally like typing things out. Poor grammar is a small pet peeve of mine. Occasional errors and typos are no problem. If my brain starts to bleed from trying to decipher your nonsense, then that's annoying.

Kids in my school write stupid stuff with poor English, funny thing is, my teachers really don't understand them. LOL

I personally have no problem with them, though I prefer not to type like that, it's fun to read them once in a while.

I don't really mind other peoples grammar.

.. Oh, wait.. there was one exception, "1337" talk bugs me sometimes. Where they talk completely without the use of letters.
It's just so annoying to make out, when they could easily do english instead and have everyone understand right away.

Ok, two exceptions. For some reason lul/lulz/lolz bothers me as well.. I have no idea why.

I have to admit, it's really annoying. Especially when you're trying to converse with that person and basically need a decoder ring to figure out what they're trying to say.

But on the other hand, people can type how they like, and just because they use internet slang doesn't make them stupid. They probably just find it easier to use and quicker, which is understandable.

Sometimes I just type w/e or wbu if I don't feel like typing it all out.

it's not really that annoying as long as we can understand it.

People who type use bad grammar are usually just lazy, they can be very smart.
I use proper-ish grammar because I like to be clearly understood, so if i wur to tYpe liek dis, it's very possible that I would be misunderstood.
Forums are a breeding ground of bad grammar, and flamers, it can get sickening.
I personally use good grammar on forums, and in Emails and etc. but in chats, my grammar starts to fail, I randomly forgot punctuation, and don't capitalize.

TyP!Ng <<<<< Like that is kinda long since keyboards were designed NOT to be used like that.

But I do understand that for some, those kind of things are 'cute' or 'creative', but there should be a limit in everything. At least, here in forum I guess,,,,, anyway It didn't really bother me whenever I see that sort of things. Maybe not for now Image
