The Tempest is good. Romeo and Juliet anime butchered Shakespeare's work. I've actually read one of those Shakespeare mangas and the dialogue is from the actual play. Be warned though, reading Shakespeare on its own without some kind of guide (cliff notes etc) can be quite tough. The tempest is one of his easier to understand works.

I'm afraid I don't fancy Shakespeare as an anime as it'll be in japanese and the brilliance of the words get lost in translation (which is another reason why I didn't like Romeo and Juliet). Certain things simply sound better in the original language they're written in. Which is why most dubbed animes are quite bad.

I think a Midsummer's Night's Dream would be quite a good read too.

English speakers generally tend to mess up Shakespeare. "Where fore art thou" translates to "Why are you?" not "Where are you?" The English language today isn't what it was back in the days of yore. As such, saying that it should not be translated into Japanese is like saying it should not be adapted for modern audiences. Shakespeare intended that his work be enjoyed far and wide.
