superpower - a state powerful enough to influence events throughout the world. A country that has the capacity to project dominating power and influence anywhere in the world.

I think in 50 years the US will still be the most powerful country in the world.
for those that say China or some country will become the next superpower in 50 years, they are stupid, no country have the advance technology, economy, power that come close to the United States.

Uhmm... China is pretty much ahead of us in technology, economy, and power... I really don't know where you're getting your information from. (I get mine from industry people who spend a great deal of time in china, as well as following mainstream news outlets).

I'm putting my money on China - so much so I'm taking mandarin classes in school. They're putting an incredible infrastructure in place and the people are motivated. That motivation is going to be the key to their success. The US lacks that motivation.

Their hybrid style of communism/capitalism is doing wonders right now - they can motivate their people to work hard AND the government can cut through red tape whenever necessary. Sure they're working out some problems right now, but it isn't stopping anyone from using them to produce their products. Hell, they have trillion dollars laying around. In case you were unaware, we're in the hole - and we're still spending like drunken sailors. Oh, and the value of the dollar isn't too well either.

I'm not sure why you think they're behind in technology, their manufacturing facilities are much more modern than ours. Overall their quality is better as well, though there certainly is some room for improvement (like the contaminated toys).

If by "power" you mean military power (since they're clearly ahead of us economically at this point)... I really don't have much faith in a nation that hasn't been able to beat a rag tag group of terrorists in the middle east.

China also isn't concerned about being politically correct. When they have militant muslim problems, those villages have a habit of "disappearing." Here in the west, we are too scared of being thought politically incorrect that we cater to any group at the expense of our own way of life.

In 50 years america will still be a superpower, but not the premier one. We'll be on par with europe.

the US has about enough nukes to last them 50 years. but there is no doubt that decline is inevitable. The US is indebted to China for alot of money, but mutual gain would prevent the Chinese to call in its tab because they are dependent on the American Economy for the time being anyway.

long answer short, US is a super power.

Well.. rite now no other country can even compare to US in terms of economy and military. The 2nd largest economy in the world is the European Union. Their gross domestic product value is about $24k per capita. 3rd largest economy is china, their GDP value is only about $9k per capita.

You wanna know what america's GDP value is? it's friggin $43k per capita! and it's growth rate is averagely bigger as well than it's competition. How the fck can any country catch up? they have a headstart [iand faster growthrate..

Now that we know how solid the US's economy is, lets move on to it's military.. we all know that US have the most advanced military technology than any other country, But for the sake of comparing it to other country, here's it's data..

- Republic of china's military budget per annum: at 1.7% of their total annual income, they are spending 44.94 billion dollars on military expenses
- European union: 293 billion dollars per annum on military expenses.
- Aaaand the US: at 3.9% of their total annual income, they are spending 548 billion dollars per annum on military expenses.

Why did i list the budget again? well it's easy, the more a country spend on their military, the more advanced and well maintained their army personels and equipments are.

________________________________________________________________

ok that's speaking only about it's conventional power. Sometimes other country can grab powers in both military and economy on unconventional means like.. say taking over another country and acquiring the country's military and GDP incomes. Like germany on WW2 for example.

BUT!

here's the news... it ain't gonna happen with the US, you wanna know why? That much country in the world have a US military based and are pretty much supporting the US military

If you see the map, it leaves little chance for any country to suddenly perform any hostile economy/military takeover, without the US interfering during the first say, 1-2 months of the hostile warring campaign

So.... unless america can be broken down from within (which i doubt since their intelligence agency, the CIA, is one of the most powerful in the world to let something like that happen). No other country can ever... EVER hope to even claim they're US's rival.

note: i'm not an american, i hate their foreign policy, and i think bush is an idiot. But this rite here.. this is the fact

as far as I'm concered I think America's economy sucks. The US dollar declined so bad that the Canadian Doller passed it for the first time in a very long time. America does not produce enough to support it's population. It's exports are much smaller that it's imports. The American military is only a force because there're more funds put into the military that into education. Canada is a little better with exports of oil, gold and other things, but not much. Its funds for the military are small and we only have a couple hand-me-down subs to brag about, not much. China and India, in my opinion, will be super powers before long because they are growing economically and technologically but I think that no matter what country becomes a superpower or not doesn't matter. Every government and every country has flaws whether it be government (which is pretty much every country) or something else.

after the communists were removed from Russia it's been really hard to get the country on track, there's still a lot of people in the high-ups with a lot of money and a very large portion of the people with very little money. plus they need to catch up in technology with the rest of the world. Communism essentially shut them out of the world for a while so they lost a lot of technological advances they're still catching up. they're slowly rising but it'll take a really long time to get back to where they should be

It all depends, generally the better of a country is the worse off the individuals are, since for a country to do well the people need to be controlled be the government. I personally would prefer to live in a country that is halfway, not extreme right or left, since either one is bad because an extreme left system doesn't work, which is why communism is so bad. But obviously extreme right isn't so good either because even though the country as a whole may do well and become a "superpower" the individual people are just consumers, ways of earning money for the ruling class. As it is now china is set to become the next big superpower, with its "socialist republic" government. According to wikipedia:

The country is the world's largest consumer of steel and concrete, using, respectively, a third and over a half of the world's supply of each.[9] It is also the world's second largest importer of petroleum. Counting all products, China is the third largest importer and the second largest exporter in the world.

china is slowly growing more powerful and america's economy is just horrible

the US is in so much debt, the gas companies are monopolizing, and 90% of the united state's gross income goes to the upperclass (which makes only 1% of U.S's population)

yeah US isn't as good as you thought eh
